Heimerman will have a tale to tell which has
all the elements of popular novels of the French
underground.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L.
Heimerman, have pieced together some of the
story from war department notices and three
valiant postcards sent them by courageous
Frenchmen.
There's a hint of romance in the story, for
two of the cards were from a French girl, living
near Paris, who informed his parents that the
sergeant had been hidden by them in his
journey south in an attempt to leave occupied
France.
The Heimermans were notified that their
son was missing in action on May 11. He was
waist gunner on a Liberator based in England
and had been overseas only two months. Then
came a weary period of waiting for news, when
no news came.
In November a postcard from France dated
Sept. 21, addressed to the sergeant and signed
"Marie." began, "I have often thought of the short
and sad time you spent here. Now everything
has changed. Everything seems marvelous and
