HORN EINES TRICERATOPS

Hell Creek Formation, Montana, USA, Kreidezeit, 

67 Millionen Jahre alt. 

Im Maastrichtium der Oberkreidezeit entstand dieses 

Horn des Triceratops, wobei am Ende dieser chronostratigrafischen 

Stufe das größte weltweite Massenaussterben 

der Erdgeschichte, bei der alle Nichtvogel 

Dinosaurier starben, folgte. Der Triceratops konnte 

zwischen 6-12 Tonnen schwer werden und bis zu 9 

Metern Länge erreichen. Es konnte bisher noch kein 

vollständiges Skelett gefunden werden, sodass auch 

das hier vorgestellte einzelne eindrucksvolle Horn 

eine wichtige Ergänzung für das Wissen um den 

größten Vertreter der Ceratopsidae darstellt. Neben 

einem kleinen Nasenhorn auf dem Nasenbein verfügte 

das Tier auch über Auswüchse des Postorbitale, 

die die Überaugenhörner bildeten, von denen wir hier 

eines anbieten. (†)

A triceratops could weigh 6-12 tons and reach a 

length of up to nine meters. No complete skeleton 

has been found to date, so that the single impressive 

horn on offer for sale here is an important addition to 

the knowledge of the largest representative of the

RHAMPHORHYNCHUS (FLUGSAURIER) 




Solnhofen, Deutschland, Mittel- bis Oberjura, 

ca. 155 Millionen Jahre alt. 

Flugsaurier der Klassifizierung Rhamphorhynchinae 

konnten eine Spannweite von 1,8 Metern erreichen 

und hatten einen etwa 20 cm langen Schwanz, der in 

ein rautenförmiges Ruder endete, das hier etwas 

länglich erscheint. Die nach vorn ausgerichteten Zähne 

seines Kiefers sind noch gut zu sehen und dienten 

wohl dem Fischfang, sind doch bei einigen Fossilien 

noch Fischreste zu sehen. Die Hauptfundorte sind 

Tendaguru in Tansania, in England sowie im Nusplinger 

Plattenkalk in Württemberg und bei Solnhofen 

und Eichstätt im bayerischen Franken. Besonders bei 

Exemplaren aus Solnhofen sind oft noch Abdrücke 

des Stützgewebes, der Flughaut und Details der Flügen 

zu erkennen. (†)

Rhamphorhynchinae of the genus of pterosaurs could 

reach a wingspan of 1.8 meters and their tails were 

ca. 20 cm long ending in a diamond-shaped rudder,

Anmerkung: 

Das erste fossile Exemplar des Rhamphorhynchus 

wurde von Samuel Thomas von Soemmerring dem 

Sammler Georg Graf zu Münster im Jahr 1825 überbracht. 

Von Soemmerring nahm an, dass es zu einem 

alten Vogel gehörte. Als weitere Zähne freigelegt 

wurden, schickte Graf zu Münster den Fund an Professor 

Georg August Goldfuss, der diesen dann als 

einen Flugsaurier identifizierte. Dieses Exemplar erhielt 

den Namen Ornithocephalus (= Pterodactylus) 

muensteri. Im Jahre 1845 benannte Hermann von 

Meyer die ursprüngliche Art Ornithocephalus muensteri 

zu Pterodactylus muensteri. In einer Neubetrachtung 

1847 benannte dann von Meyer Ornithocephalus 

zur eigenen Gattung Rhamphorhynchus um.

Auf einem Stein sitzend, mit erhobenen Zangen, als 

ob man bei einem Strandspaziergang einer Krabbe 

begegnet. Dieses bemerkenswerte Exemplar bewahrt 

einen dynamischen Moment der Geschichte in Schokoladen- 

und Bronzetönen, die sich von der kühlen 

grauen Matrix abheben. Auf einem eigens angefertigten 

Ebenholzsockel präsentiert, fesselt dieses lebendig 

anmutende Exemplar die Fantasie. (†)

Ein schönes Beispiel für ein Ei von Cairanoolithus 

dughii aus dem Campanium (vor 82 Millionen Jahren) 

in seiner ursprünglichen Matrix. 

Da Embryonen in Cairanoolithus-Eiern unbekannt sind, 

ist die Identität ihrer Eltern ungewiss. Es ist jedoch 

möglich, dass es sich bei dem Elternteil von Cairanoolithus 

um eine Art von Ornithopoden handelt, die 

nicht zu den Ornithopoden gehören, wahrscheinlich

STYLEMYS NEBRASCENSIS (SCHILDKRÖTE)

Jahre alt. 

Warme Rot- und Brauntöne zeichnen bemerkenswerte 

Details dieses wunderschön erhaltenen Schildkrötenpanzers, 

einer eleganten Skulptur der Natur. 

Die Schildkröte Stylemys nebrascensis wurde von 

wenigen Zentimetern bis zu einem Meter lang. Dieser 

ausgewachsene Panzer ist in Bezug auf Größe und 

Vollständigkeit ein seltenes und einzigartiges Exemplar. 

Dieses freistehende Stück in Museumsqualität 

wird jeden Betrachter faszinieren. 

Die Stylemys war die erste Schildkröte, die in Nordamerika 

erstmals von Joseph Leidy 1851 entdeckt und 

beschrieben wurde. Im Gegensatz zu den heutigen 

Schildkröten waren diese antiken Tiere Pflanzenfresser. 

Vollständige Panzer sind äußerst selten, da 

die Ausdehnung von Mineralablagerungen in den 

Panzern diese oft vor der Ausgrabung fragmentierten. 

Außerdem wurden erwachsene Exemplare oft nach 

dem Tod erbeutet und nur selten konserviert. (†)

Ein vergleichbares Exemplar der Stylemys nebrascensis, 

das in South Dakoter gefunden wurde, wird im 

Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin verwahrt.

ALLOSAURUS JIMMADSENI (DINOSAURIER)

Dramatisch aufgerichtet, als ob er sich aus seinem 

irdischen Gefängnis befreien würde, bestimmt dieser 

Allosaurus den Raum mit seiner geheimnisvollen bedrohlichen 

Präsenz als Dinosaurier. Der Allosaurus 

(griechisch für andersartige Echse) war eines der wildesten 

Raubtiere der Jurazeit und konnte eine Größe 

erreichen, die mit der des Tyrannosaurus Rex vergleichbar 

war. Er gehörte zur Unterordnung der Theropoda: 

zweibeinige, fleischfressende Dinosaurier, die mehr 

als 150 Millionen Jahre lang die Erde beherrschten. 

Dieser Allosaurus mittleren Alters, der in einem paläontologischen 

Labor restauriert wurde, war zwischen 22 

und 28 Jahre alt und ist zu bemerkenswerten 65%

Die Erstbeschreibung erfolgte 1877 durch Othniel 

Charles Marsh, welcher der Gattung ihren Namen 

gab, da die Anatomie der Wirbelknochen zu den 

bereits bekannten Dinosaurierwirbeln differierte.

Raised dramatically as if breaking free from its earthly 

prison, this Allosaurus commands the space with 

its mysterious menacing dinosaur presence. The Allosaurus 

(Greek for different lizard) was one of the 

ferocious predators of the Jurassic period and could 

grow as big as a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It belonged to the 

subgroup of theropods: two-legged, carnivorous dinosaurs 

that ruled the earth for more than 150 million 

years. This middle-aged Allosaurus, restored in a paleontological 

laboratory, was between 22 and 28 years 

old and is a remarkable 65% complete. Mended. (†) 

Notes: 

This was first described in 1877 by Othniel Charles 

Marsh, who named the species because the anatomy 

of the dorsal vertebrae differed from other already 

known dinosaur vertebrae.

Apatosaurus (trügerische Echse) war ein enormer 

Langhals-Dinosaurier oder Sauropode, der bis zu 30 

Tonnen wiegen konnte und bis zu 26 Meter lang 

wurde. Dieser im späten Jura weit verbreitete schwerfällige 

Riese konnte täglich eine Tonne Pflanzen verschlingen. 

Er verfügte über einen langen Schwanz mit 

82 Wirbeln, der eventuell der innerartlichen Kommunikation 

diente, indem er mit dem Schwanz einen 

Überschallkanal aufbaute. Versteinerte Fußspuren 

deuten darauf hin, dass er zumindest zeitweise innerhalb 

einer Herde lebte. Die ersten Fossilien wurden 

1877 von Othniel Charles Marsh entdeckt. Ein Stück 

Geschichte, geeignet für den anspruchsvollsten Sammler 

und gut kombinierbar im modernen Interior Design.

PANTHERA SPELAEA (HÖHLENLÖWE)

Dieser exquisit erhaltene Löwenschädel ist Teil eines 

wilden Raubtieres aus der Eiszeit und zeigt die Merkmale, 

die Panthera spelaea auszeichnen. Diese ausgestorbene 

Löwenart unterscheidet sich von den 

modernen Löwen durch Schädel- und Zahnmerkmale. 

Sie war größer, maß am Widerrist 1,80 m und war 

1,80 m lang (ohne Schwanz). Sie hatte keine große 

Mähne und kein Schwanzbüschel. Der Löwenschädel 

ist so schön ausgestellt, als würde er dynamisch 

gleich einer Sportlertrophäe über dem Sockel aus

„GERMINATION“ GOGOTTE 




Fontainebleau, Oligozän, ca. 30 Millionen Jahre alt. 

Auf den ersten Blick mögen Gogottes wie von 

Menschenhand geschaffene Skulpturen erscheinen. 

Tatsächlich handelt es sich um seltene Sandsteinformationen, 

die in der Nähe von Fontainebleau in 

Nordfrankreich mühsam aus einer alten Sanddüne 

ausgegraben wurden. Die Ebbe und Flut des Wassers 

in den Sanden hat jede Kurve und jede Kontur geformt. 

Die Konkretion von Quarz und Siliziumdioxid 

verleiht der Skulptur ein fast reinweißes Aussehen, 

das durch den speziell angefertigten glänzenden 

schwarzen Sockel noch verstärkt wird. Die unerwartete 

Form von „Germination“ regt die Fantasie an.

Der Entstehungsprozess der Gogottes, die sich in 

einem Felsen befinden, der in Fontainebleau während 

des Oligozäns vor 24-34 Millionen Jahren von äolischen 

Sanddünen abgelagert wurde, ist nur teilweise bekannt. 

Kieselsäurereiches Wasser filterte durch den 

feinen Quarzsand, der jahrhundertelang zur Herstellung 

von hochwertigem Glas abgebaut wurde, und es 

entstand eine Konkretion mit einer ähnlichen Zusammensetzung 

wie Quarzkristall, Chalcedon und Achat. 

Gogottes inspirieren seit langem Kunst und Design, 

von Ludwig XIV von Frankreich, der sie in die Gärten 

von Versailles einbaute, bis zu Surrealisten wie Jean 

Arp und Henry Moore. Jedes dieser natürlichen mineralogischen 

Kunstwerke nimmt einzigartige Formen 

an, die oft an Wolken, Wirbelstürme, Tiere oder Gespenster 

erinnern. Ludwig XIV, der „Sonnenkönig“, 

war von ihnen so angetan, dass er zahlreiche Exemplare 

ausgraben ließ, um die Gärten des Schlosses von 

Versailles zu schmücken. Eine große Anzahl der kunstvoll 

gerundeten, verschlungenen Gebilde findet sich 

rund um den geheimnisvollen Hain der Drei Brunnen 

(1677 von Le Nôtre entworfen). Der zur Zeit Ludwigs 

XVI zerstörte Hain wurde 2004 rekonstruiert. Ein besonders 

gut erhaltenes Exemplar einer Sandsteinkonkretion 

ist im Smithsonian Institution National Museum 

of Natural History in Washington D.C. zu sehen. (†)

GROSSER POLIERTER AMMONIT PACHYDISCUS

Dieser Ammonit ist von enormer Schönheit, die eine 

wunderbare Vielfalt an Erdtönen aufweist. Er hat exquisit 

detaillierte farnartige Nahtlinien in Rost- und 

Schokoladentönen. Überall sind Bänder mit goldener 

Kristallisation sichtbar. Benannt als „Ammons Hörner“, 

nach dem altägyptischen Gott des Lebens und der 

Fortpflanzung, der für seine Widderhörner bekannt 

war, werden Ammoniten seit Tausenden von Jahren 

von Kulturen auf der ganzen Welt geschätzt. Ammoniten 

sind ausgestorbene Kopffüßer, die für die Erforschung 

von Geologie und Paläontologie gleichermaßen 

schön und wichtig sind. Ammoniten zeichnen 

sich durch Schalenornamente und Nahtlinien aus. Die 

geschickte Präparation bringt die feinen Rippen und 

die markanten farnartigen Nähte zur Geltung, wobei 

die Öffnung entlang der Nahtlinien abgeschlossen ist. 

Dieser Ammonit wird auf einem speziell angefertigten, 

schwebenden Eisenständer ausgestellt, der das 

Staunen über die Größe und Vielfalt der Schönheit

Ammolite zeigen sich als opaleszierende Regenbogen 

in lebhaften Rot-, Orange-, Gelb- und Grüntönen und 

gehören zu den seltensten Edelsteinen. Sie entstehen 

durch einzigartige geologische Prozesse bei der Versteinerung 

von Ammoniten und sind nur in Alberta, 

nordöstlich der Rocky Mountains zu finden. Benannt 


Fortpflanzung, der für seine Widderhörner bekannt war, 

werden Ammoniten seit Tausenden von Jahren von 

Kulturen auf der ganzen Welt geschätzt. Ammoniten 

sind ausgestorbene Kopffüßer, die ebenso schön wie 

wichtig für die Erforschung von Geologie und Paläontologie 

sind. Zu den am meisten geschätzten Ammoniten

Brasilien. 

Große tiefviolette Kristalle funkeln und glänzen in diesem 

atemberaubenden brasilianischen Amethysten. 

Der Amethyst, eine Varietät des Quarz SiO2, der seine 

satte Farbe Einschlüssen von Eisen und Bestrahlung 

verdankt und von den alten Kulturen geschätzt 

wurde, zählt zu den Edelsteinen. Man erzählt sich, 

dass Bacchus, der Gott des Weines, ein junges Mädchen 

so erschreckte, dass es sich in Kristall verwandelte 

– enttäuscht seufzte der Gott und als sein Atem 

den Stein berührte wurde dieser Weinrot. Die Ägypter, 

Etrusker und Römer suchten die Kristalle wegen 

ihrer Schönheit und Heilkräfte. Selten gibt es jedoch 

intakte Exemplare wie die hier angebotene Geode 

mit einer solchen Fülle an großzügigen Kristallen in 

Edelsteinqualität. Mit seiner skulpturalen Form erhellt 

dieses Exemplar von Weltrang das Ambiente jeder

Campo del Cielo, Argentinien. 

Der Campo del Cielo, über den erstmals im Jahr 1576 

dem spanischen Gouverneur Hernán Mexia de Miraval 

durch Ureinwohner berichtet wurde, brachte viele 

der größten und aufregendsten Meteoriten der Welt 

hervor. 

Dieses bemerkenswerte Exemplar, das sich durch 

seine Größe und sein Gewicht auszeichnet, fesselt 

die Fantasie mit jeder Spalte, als würde es seine 

Schöpfungsgeschichte lebendig erzählen und an den 

lavaähnlichen Strom geschmolzenen Eisens erinnern. 

Ein Traum für Sternengucker: Die erstaunlichen Konturen 

des Meteoriten werden durch den speziell verspiegelten 

Sockel hervorgehoben, der die tiefsten 

Krater beleuchtet. Ein Stück Weltraum, das das gleiche 

Staunen und den gleichen Forscherdrang auslöst 

wie der Blick in den Nachthimmel. Eisenmeteoriten 

stammen aus dem geschmolzenen Eisenkern eines 

Planeten, der während der Entstehung des Sonnensystems

Der Planetoid brach vor etwa 4,5 Milliarden Jahren in 

Asteroiden auseinander. Eisenmeteoriten bestehen

Fortpflanzung, der für seine Widderhörner bekannt 

war, werden Ammoniten seit Tausenden von Jahren 

von Kulturen auf der ganzen Welt geschätzt. Ammoniten 

sind ausgestorbene Kopffüßer, die für die Erforschung 

von Geologie und Paläontologie gleichermaßen 

schön und wichtig sind. Ammoniten zeichnen 

sich durch Schalenverzierungen und Nahtlinien aus.

Dieses fossile Wandgemälde bietet einen Einblick in 

das Leben in einem alten See. Es wurde in der berühmten 

Green River Formation gefunden, die für ihren 

Reichtum an Wirbeltierfossilien bekannt ist. Dieses 

Stück wurde fachmännisch präpariert, so dass die zarten 

Flossen und Wirbeltiere bis ins kleinste Detail erhalten 

sind. Die originalen schokoladenbraunen Fische 

bilden einen schönen Kontrast zu der warmen cremefarbenen 

Matrix, aus der sie ausgegraben wurden, 

und werden in einem maßgefertigten Walnussrahmen 

präsentiert. Der Diplomystus – ein ausgestorbener 

Hering – und der Knightia – ein kleiner Fisch, der typischerweise 

in Schwärmen vorkommt – sind zwischen 

12,5 und 57 cm lang und scheinen neben dem seltenen 

Notogoneous – einem ausgestorbenen Bodenfresser 

– mit einer kunstvoll gegliederten Wirbelsäule 

zu schwimmen. 

Als sich die Rocky Mountains formten, bildeten sich in 

Wyoming drei große Seen in Becken, die sich über 

60.000 Quadratmeilen erstrecken und heute als Green 

River Formation bekannt sind. In den 1840er-Jahren 

wurden die ersten Berichte über Fossilien in diesem 

Gebiet aufgezeichnet. Heute ist die Formation berühmt 

für ihre reiche Vielfalt an Fischen, Insekten und 

Pflanzen, die in fein geschichteten Kalksteinen und 

Schiefergestein erhalten sind. Die Lagerstätten bildeten 

sich unter anoxischen Bedingungen im feinkörnigen 

Kalkschlamm der Seen. Mangelnder Sauerstoff 

verlangsamte den bakteriellen Zerfall und hielt überdies 

Aasfresser fern, so dass Palm-, Farn- und Platanenblätter 

ungestört im feinkörnigen Sediment eingebettet 

und erhalten werden konnten – einige Blätter 

zeigen sogar noch die während ihres Wachstums erlittenen 

Insektenschäden. Insekten wurden vollkommen 

erhalten, selbst zierliche Flügelmembranen von Libellen 

und Spinnweben sind noch zu erkennen. 

Auch Wirbeltiere wurden fossilisiert, darunter die 

Schuppen des Krokodils Borealsuchus, welches einen 

ersten frühen Hinweis auf das während des Eozäns 

im westlichen Nordamerika herrschende milde Klima 

lieferte. Fische sind allgegenwärtig – Knightia, der 

auch in unserem Wandbild vertreten ist, tritt manchmal 

in so dichten Lagen auf, dass der Eindruck entsteht, 

als wäre ein Schwarm in sauerstoffarme Bereiche 

vorgedrungen und dann dort umgekommen. Diese 

Art ist bei sämtlichen Fossilliebhabern wohlbekannt. 

Unter den Fischfunden befindet sich auch Heliobatis, 

ein endemischer Süßwasser-Stachelrochen. (†)

UNIVERSE 

The photographs in this catalogue are guaranteed as original NASA 

prints, processed by NASA‘s photographic laboratories. As original 

prints of pictures taken by astronauts such as Neil Armstrong, they 

are very rare and difficult to find, especially in good condition. Because 

NASA had several processing centers and each print was produced 

on demand, no two are ever identical, meaning each one is unique. 

Vintage NASA photographs were printed on fibre-based photographic 

paper, 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10 in). NASA produced master duplicates of all 

negatives after each mission, while the originals were locked away in 

cold store. From the master duplicates photographs were printed and 

distributed for the use of NASA‘ own scientists and public relations 

department. 

In subsequent years, NASA destroyed many of these original prints 

as they were archived on the internet and true original prints are 

therefore hard to find. Original NASA photographs are not ‚editioned‘ 

in any conventional sense, it is impossible to know the exact number 

of them in open circulation but it is certainly limited. The location 

of the red NASA number, the presence or not of a purple caption on 

the verso, any annotations or other marks, the ageing of the colour 

and the condition of the print can all vary to a significant degree. 

Most of the pictures may show signs of wear due to the passing of time 

since the pictures were taken.

incubators for new stars. They are part of the „Eagle 

Nebula“, a nearby star-forming region 6,500 light-years 

away in the constellation Serpens. Dense clouds of 

molecular hydrogen gas and dust have survived longer 

than their surroundings in the face of a flood of 

ultraviolet light from massive newborn stars. The tallest 

pillar is about about 4 light-years long from base 

to tip. The picture was taken on April 1, 1995 with the 

Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field and Planetary 

Camera 2. The color image is constructed from three 

separate images taken in the light of emission from

Voyager I took this photo of Jupiter and its Great Red 

Spot from 20 million miles away in 1979. The first 

information on the physical, atmospheric and geological 

processes occurring on the planet was thus 

revealed. The first close-up image of the planet‘s atmosphere 

was taken, the temperature of the clouds 

was measured, the movement of winds in the bands 

and zones observed, lightning was detected in the 

dark hemisphere, and the velocity of the matter that 

constitutes the Great Red Spot was measured, revealing

ASTRONAUT ED WHITE MAKING THE USA‘S FIRST 

SPACEWALK

On 3 June 1965 during the Gemini 4 mission, the 

ex tra- vehicular activity (EVA) started at 19:45 UT 

(3:45 p.m. EDT) on the third orbit when White opened 

his hatch and used the hand-held manuevering 

oxygen-jet gun to push himself out of the capsule. The 

EVA started over the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii and 

lasted 23 minutes, ending over the Gulf of Mexico.

EARTH RISING

The rising Earth is about five degrees above the lunar 

horizon in this telephoto view taken from the Apollo 8 

spacecraft near 110 degrees east longitude. The horizon, 

about 570 kilometers (250 statute miles) from 

the spacecraft, is near the eastern limb of the Moon 

as viewed from the Earth. On the earth, the sunset 

terminator crosses Africa. The south pole is in the 

white area near the left end of the terminator. North 

and South America are under the clouds. The lunar 

surface probably has less pronounced color than indicated

ASTRONAUT BUZZ ALDRIN WALKS ON THE MOON

Armstrong taking his picuture. Astronaut Neil A. 

Armstrong, Apollo 11 commander, took this photograph

THE APOLLO 8 MISSION

After inserting into lunar orbit, the Apollo 8 astronauts 

looked down on rugged terrain never before seen by 

man. This scene is typical of farside terrain illuminated 

by a sun that is nearly directly overhead. A surface 

consisting of craters superimposed on older craters 

extends about 570 kilometers (350 statute miles) to 

the horizon. Width of view at the horizon is 150 kilometers.
