Teilnehmenden statt, darunter der Comiczeichner Marcello
Quintanilha. Der in Barcelona ansässige Brasilianer hatte
damals ein Aufenthaltsstipendium im LCB. (2016 wurde
er beim Comicfestival Angoulême für seine Graphic Novel
»Tungstênio« ausgezeichnet, und 2002 erhielt er für »Hör
nur, schöne Márcia«, das bei Reprodukt erschienen ist, den
Hauptpreis des Festivals.) Die Moderation der Gespräche auf
der Bühne übernahm die Journalistin Lilian Pithan. Als Sahnehäubchen
gab es noch einen Büchertisch der Comicbibliothek
Renate, wunderbar betreut von der Comiczeichnerin Luise
Franke.
On Saturday October 12, 2019 at
noon, the start-time for the marathon,
there were over 35 participants at the
ready when the theme "Mate" was
announced. Referring to "Chimarrão",
'mate' tea is consumed in South
America with the help of a drinking
tube from its calabash, an example of
which was provided by Augusto from
his office. Thanks to its high caffeine
content, Chimarrão helps people stay
awake. In South America, it is a drink
traditionally enjoyed in the company of
others, making it the perfect fit for the
24-hour comic artist all-night drawing
marathon.

Am Ende der Veranstaltung, am Mittag des 13. Oktober,
verblieben alle Comics zum Einscannen im LCB, um in den
folgenden Wochen auf dessen Website (lcb.de/skizzenblog)
veröffentlicht zu werden. Eine Auswahl mit zwölf Comics
plus Fotos, einem Poster, und anderen Texten erschien im
Folgejahr unter dem Titel »MATE« im Jaja Verlag, herausgegeben
von Augusto Paim und Annette Köhn.
On that same Saturday evening the LCB opened its doors for
a few hours to the public for a collective studio visit, where
LCB guests were allowed to look over the shoulders of the
participating artists at work. In addition, the event hall hosted
short panel discussions with various participants, including
Brazilian/Barcelona-based comic artist Marcello Quintanilha,
who at the time was also doing a residency at LCB and won an
award at the 2016 Angoulême Comics Festival for his graphic
novel "Tungstênio". (He would subsequently win the festival‘s
main prize in 2022 for "Escuta, Formosa Márcia" published
in German by Reprodukt). Talks on stage were moderated
by journalist Lilian Pithan. A book table provided by Comic
Library Renate and wonderfully supervised by comic artist
Luise Franke was the icing on the cake.
The event ended at noon on October 13, and all the comics
remained at the LCB to be scanned and published on the
LCB website (lcb.de/skizzenblog) in the weeks to follow. A
selection of twelve comics, plus photos, a poster, and other
texts was published the following year under the title "MATE"
by Jaja Verlag, edited by Augusto Paim and Annette Köhn.
