VORWORT
1990 forderte der US-Zeichner Scott
McCloud seinen Kollegen Stephen
Bissette heraus, innerhalb von 24
Stunden einen eigenständigen
24-seitigen Comic zu entwickeln. Ziel
war es, die Arbeit an einem Comic, die
normalerweise einen ganzen Monat
erfordert, auf einen Tag zu konzentrieren.
Seitdem haben sich dieser
Herausforderung hunderte, tausende
Künstler:innen auf der ganzen Welt
gestellt.
Die Regeln für einen 24-Stunden-Comic-
Marathon sind simpel: Die Zeichner:innen
dürfen nichts vorbereiten,
das Thema wird erst kurz vor Beginn
bekanntgegeben bzw. ausgelost. Texte,
Entwürfe, Szenarios, Zeichnungen,
Reinzeichnungen, Farben und alles, was
sonst zu einem Comic gehört, muss
innerhalb von 24 Stunden entstehen.
Nachbearbeitungen sind nicht erlaubt.
Ob man 24 Stunden lang durchzeichnet,
lieber kleine Pausen einplant oder aber
den Comic schnell fertigzeichnet, um die
verbleibende Zeit für Verfeinerungen
zu nutzen … das entscheidet jede und
In 1990, U.S. cartoonist Scott McCloud
challenged fellow cartoonist Stephen
Bissette to develop a stand-alone
24-page comic in 24 hours. The goal
was to compress all the work that
goes into a month-long comic project
into one day. Since then, hundreds of
thousands of artists around the world
have taken up the same gauntlet.
The rules for a 24-hour comic marathon
are simple: artists cannot do any
preparatory work before the event and
the theme of the comic to be created is
revealed only at the start of the event
itself. Drafts, text, drawings, colouring,
and final artwork (in short everything
comprising a completed comic) must be
created within those 24 hours. Editing
after the fact is not allowed. Whether
you draw for the entire 24 hours, take
small breaks during the marathon, or
finish the comic quickly and use the
remaining time to refine your work is all
up to you. The goal is to finish the comic
and the journey is to have fun along the
way. "A mixture of jazz and endurance
sport" is how Peter Auge Lorenz,
