Change brought about by megatrends
Wandel im Einfluss der Megatrends
Needs, values and aspirations of people change; there are new
technological advances, markets are constantly on the move. It is
a key competitive advantage to recognize trends early on and to
use them to one‘s benefit. Four megatrends (according to Matthias
Horx) will have a key influence on the construction industry: ecology,
urbanization, mobility, and education.
Everybody‘s talking about ecology. Climate change is the biggest
issue. We need to think about energy, save energy, drive down
carbon emissions, and lower costs in the process. For the transformation
of society according to ecological criteria, we need not only
to save energy but also, just as importantly, to generate energy
in an environmentally friendly manner. It is the responsibility of
the construction industry to support research into new sources of
energy and to contribute its experience and expertise.
Urbanization will result in new megacities. In 1950, 30% of the
global population lived in cities; in Europe, this share amounted to
50%. Today, more than half of all people worldwide and over 75%
of the European population live in cities. Buildings must be designed
and converted in such a way that their use can be adapted
to varying needs, and that their sustainability is ensured across
the entire life cycle.
Mobility – getting from A to B – is increasing tremendously. In
2015, approx. 1.13 billion vehicles will be registered worldwide.
Whereas the German population will decrease by about 5 million
by 2030, the number of registered vehicles will increase by
8.8 million to reach a total of 53.5 million. According to a study
commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the volume of
freight traffic will increase from 3.7 to 5.5 billion tonnes in the
next 40 years whereas the total freight traffic distance will rise
from 650 to 1,200 billion tkm.
The industrial society we know is currently becoming a knowledge
society. For this reason, the most important trend is education.
The construction industry needs both appropriate solutions
from research and development and a sufficient number of highly
skilled and trained people.
Willy Brandt once said: „The best way to predict the future is
to create it.“ This is where the true potential of the German economy,
and thus of the construction industry, lies. On this note, I wish
all attendees of the 56 th BetonTage congress inspiring discussions
centered around this year‘s motto of „Shaping Change“.
Die Bedürfnisse, Werte und Ziele der Menschen ändern sich, es gibt
neue technologische Entwicklungen, die Märkte sind ständig in Bewegung.
Entwicklungen frühzeitig zu erkennen und zu nutzen ist ein
wesentlicher Wettbewerbsvorteil. Besonders vier Megatrends (nach
Matthias Horx) werden dabei entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Bauwirtschaft
haben: die Ökologie, die Urbanisierung, die Mobilität und
die Bildung.
Ökologie ist in aller Munde. Der Klimawandel ist das größte Problem.
Über Energie muss nachgedacht werden, Energie muss gespart
werden, der CO2-Ausstoß muss verringert werden, dabei müssen Kosten
gesenkt werden. Für den Umbau der Gesellschaft nach ökologischen
Kriterien ist neben der Energieeinsparung die ökologische
Energiegewinnung von großer Bedeutung. Die Bauwirtschaft ist gefordert,
an der Erforschung neuer Energiequellen mitzuarbeiten und
ihr Know-how einzubringen.
Bei der Urbanisierung entstehen neue Megastädte. 1950 lebten
weltweit 30 %, in Europa 50 % der Menschen in Städten. Heute sind es
weltweit mehr als die Hälfte und in Europa schon mehr als 75 %. Gebäude
müssen so geplant bzw. umgebaut werden, dass sich ihre Nutzung
unterschiedlichen Bedürfnissen anpassen lässt, dass ihre Nachhaltigkeit
über die gesamte Lebensdauer gewährleistet wird.
Die Mobilität von A nach B steigt enorm. 2015 werden weltweit ca.
1,13 Mrd. Fahrzeuge zugelassen sein. Während sich die deutsche Bevölkerung
bis 2030 um geschätzte 5 Mio. verringern wird, wird die
Anzahl der zugelassenen Fahrzeuge um 8,8 Mio. auf 53,5 Mio. steigen.
Nach einer Studie im Auftrag des Bundesverkehrsministeriums wird
sich in den nächsten 40 Jahren das Güterverkehrsaufkommen von 3,7
auf 5,5 Mrd. t und die Leistung von 650 auf 1200 Mrd. tkm steigern.
Unsere Industriegesellschaft ist dabei, sich in eine Wissensgesellschaft
zu verwandeln. Deshalb ist der wesentlichste Trend die Bildung.
Die Bauwirtschaft beruht sowohl geeignete Lösungen aus Forschung
und Entwicklung als auch genügend hochqualifizierte Mitarbeiter.
Willy Brandt sagte einmal: „Der beste Weg, die Zukunft vorauszusagen,
ist, sie zu gestalten.“ Darin liegt das Zukunftspotenzial der deutschen
Wirtschaft und somit auch der Bauwirtschaft. In diesem Sinne
wünsche ich den Teilnehmern der 56. BetonTage anregende Diskussionen
rund um das diesjährige Thema „Wandel gestalten“.
