‘Elizabeth’- (Hill, 2004).<br />

‘Glauca’- Blue-green needle type (Krussman, 1985).<br />

‘Glauca Fastigata’- Blue-green needles <strong>and</strong> a narrow growth habit.<br />

'Van Winkle'- (Hill, 2004).<br />

Tsuga x jeffreyi (Tsuga heterophylla x T. mertensiana)- A interesting cross that occurs where<br />

these two species meet in the wild. Needles similar to T. mertensiana, but the branching style of<br />

T. heterophylla. Generally a small tree. (Dusek, 2004). Best used in an open site in the “Forest<br />

Ridge” zone.<br />

Vaccinum alaskense- A subalpine grower that is seen in coniferous forests. Produces blueberries<br />

that are darker than most native vaccinium (Pojar, 1994). Can be planted in the “Valley Bottom”<br />

<strong>and</strong> “Forested Ridge”. Ethnobotany: Berries were eaten.<br />

Vaccinum membranaceum - A mountain native that produces tasty blueberries. Grows 3-5’ tall.<br />

Likes wet sites <strong>and</strong> would do well in the “Wetl<strong>and</strong> Zone” or “Valley Bottom”. Ethnobotany:<br />

Berries were eaten.<br />

Vaccinium ovatum- A good shade tolerant shrub with evergreen leaves. Produces edible<br />

blueberry like fruit. Can grow under coniferous forest or out in open sites on drier sites<br />

(Kruckenberg, 1992). Can be used in the “Forested Ridge” or “Valley Bottom” sites. Gets to large<br />

for use in the “Alpine Zone”. Ethnobotany: Berries were eaten.<br />

‘Thunderbird’- Attractive new growth, this evergreen huckleberry produces large crops<br />

of tasty fruit compared to the species (Thimblefarms, 2003)<br />

Vaccinium ovatum x V. mortinia- An interesting cross with a South American Vaccinum.<br />

Vaccinium oxycoccus- Our native cranberry. An evergreen creeping shrub that enjoys boggy<br />

sites. Best suited for the “Wetl<strong>and</strong> Zone” where water is present year around. Does not want to<br />

dry out. Ethnobotany: Berries were eaten.
