Concept Stores<br />

Wellcome Taiwan has opened the first<br />

two of its new concept ‘small’ stores.<br />

Former X-Market stores at Tai-Shen<br />

and Min-Xiang in New Taipei City<br />

have been transformed into the<br />

new small store format to focus<br />

offer more convenience and choice for customers.<br />

on satisfying the daily needs of<br />

customers, in particular single<br />

people and working couples who<br />

are busy or have no facilities to cook<br />

at home. Among the many products<br />

and services that are not available<br />

in traditional supermarkets, the new<br />

stores offer ready-to-cook and readyto-eat<br />

food, and services such as a<br />

hot water facility, microwave, fax/<br />

copy machine, taxi hire, on-line game<br />

cards, free Wi-Fi and a dining area.<br />

“We hope that these new concept<br />

stores will provide more convenience<br />

and choice for customers<br />

and become their preferred<br />

neighourhood store,” said Wellcome<br />

Taiwan Chief Executive Officer<br />

Simon Chuen.<br />

Jardine Motors Acquires New Businesses in<br />

the UK<br />

Jardine Motors has become the sixth<br />

largest dealer group in the United<br />

Kingdom by turnover following its<br />

purchase of the Wayside <strong>Group</strong>, a<br />

transaction that pushes its revenue<br />

above £1.2 billion (US$1.9 billion).<br />

The Wayside <strong>Group</strong> operates five<br />

Audi, six Volkswagen cars, two<br />

Volkswagen commercial, three Trade<br />

Parts operations, one BMW/MINI,<br />

two Toyota, one Skoda and one Seat<br />

businesses, with a 2010 turnover of<br />

£305 million (US$481 million).<br />

“This acquisition is a major step<br />

forward in our strategic plan of<br />

growing the business in the UK<br />

and developing our relationships<br />

with existing franchise partners,”<br />

explained Jardine Motors Chief<br />

Executive Alun Jones.<br />

In addition, Jardine Motors has also<br />

acquired three additional Toyota<br />

and one Lexus business from<br />

Thorndale Investments.<br />

JLT Lixin Celebrates<br />

Fifth Anniversary<br />

JLT Lixin raises a fifth anniversary toast ‘to more<br />

good years!’.<br />

JLT Lixin recently celebrated its fifth<br />

anniversary, an event attended by<br />

clients, insurers, JLT Lixin staff, <strong>Group</strong><br />

Chief Executive Officer Dominic Burke,<br />

and senior management of JLT Asia.<br />

Since JLT Lixin was established in May<br />

2006 as a joint venture between JLT<br />

and Guangdong Revenco, its revenue<br />

has increased fivefold, supported by<br />

the establishment of the Shanghai and<br />

Beijing offices in 2007.<br />

Speaking at the anniversary<br />

celebrations, which were held at<br />

Roosevelt House (The Bund 27), the<br />

former 20th Century headquarters<br />

of Jardine Matheson in Shanghai,<br />

Mr Burke highlighted how its business<br />

in China has grown in tandem<br />

with the rapid development of the<br />

Chinese economy and insurance<br />

broking market.<br />

“Given its comprehensive breadth<br />

of insurance products and services,<br />

its strong reputation as a global<br />

international broker with local market<br />

knowledge, and track record of<br />

satisfied clients, JLT Lixin is in prime<br />

position to make the most of business<br />

opportunities in China,” said Mr Burke.<br />
