MINDSET Singapore Makes its Presence Felt<br />
MINDSET Singapore, which was<br />
established in early 2011, has been<br />
making its presence felt through its<br />
recent activities.<br />
At the joint Dairy Farm annual<br />
country promotion, ‘Wheels of<br />
Harmony Nurturing a Community for<br />
a Green Tomorrow’ held in Jurong<br />
Central Park, MINDSET Education<br />
and Social Enterprise teams set up<br />
a booth and handed out pamphlets<br />
relating to adult and youth mental<br />
health issues.<br />

Finale of 2009-2011 Health in Mind Programme<br />
The completion of the 2009-11 Health<br />
in Mind Programme was marked with a<br />
Finale, which was held at the Rotunda,<br />
Exchange Square, Central and attended<br />
by over 200 participants, including<br />
students graduating from the two-year<br />
programme and representatives from<br />
non-governmental organizations.<br />
The event was an opportunity for<br />
students to share their experiences and<br />
discuss the changes in their attitudes<br />
towards people recovering from<br />
mental illness.<br />
Drama from Health in Mind Students<br />
Health in Mind students from nine Hong Kong schools staged<br />
dramas created by themselves to highlight issues of drug<br />
abuse and eating disorders in the annual Health in Mind<br />
Programme drama competition.<br />
Eighteen students were rewarded<br />
with a summer traineeship at various<br />

By applying the mental health knowledge and experience that<br />
they had acquired through workshops and volunteer services,<br />
the students’ plays also demonstrated to their audience the<br />
right approach in dealing with people suffering or recovering<br />
from mental illness. Competition was keen, but the top award<br />
went to ELCHK Lutheran Secondary School for its performance<br />
about the recovery of a youngster from an anxiety disorder.<br />
“We managed to engage those who<br />
dropped by the booth by explaining<br />
what MINDSET is about and sharing<br />
relevant mental health issues,”<br />
explained Jardine Ambassador<br />
Melvis Tan.<br />
In another activity, the MINDSET<br />
Singapore Social Enterprise team<br />
organized a roadshow at CityLink Mall<br />
to showcase the artistic talents of club<br />
members of Hougang and Simei care<br />
centres, as well as to demonstrate to<br />
the public that recovering patients are<br />
also capable people.<br />
