Brother and Sister Elks:
Hats off to the Grand Lodge Executive and the Grand
Lodge staff for having the courage to admit that there is
a problem with the Organization and the bravery to bring
it to the Leaders and members of the Elks. Now it is up
to the leaders and members to take the Elk by the horn
and run with it.
As all of you are aware, the major problem is the alarming
decline in membership. It has been predicted that in
25 years there may no longer be an Elks of Canada
organization.
At the Presidents meeting in Regina, the entire
organization was reviewed and recommendations were
made. These recommendations were given to the Grand
Lodge Executive for further review and determination.
At the next National Convention, they will be bought to
the floor. Most of the Lodges should have received a
copy of these recommendations from Grand Lodge.
Please ensure that they are reviewed and discussed at a
meeting in your Lodge.
I would like to say we have reflected on our past and we
have embraced the present. Now it is time to envision
our future. What will the future Elks look like??? That is
the question. It is a hard question to answer. We need to

CORNER BROOK ELKS AND ROYAL PURPLE WALK-A-THON
A Radio Show host was on hand to give some publicity to the
Corner Brook Elks and Royal Purple Lodges and their family
members who gathered at Corner Brook City Hall on
May 27, 2012 for a Walk-a-Thon.
Proceeds of the Walk-a-Thon were donated to the Elks and
Royal Purple Fund for Children.
take a long hard look around us. What are the interests of
our children and our grandchildren? They are our future.
What do they say about the Elks? They have been raised
within the family of the Organization.
If we want the Elks to survive the next 100 years, now is
the time to make the changes that will allow us to grow
with the future. Now is the time for you all to speak up and
voice what you think will allow us to grow into the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that
the Push for Change, Joe Roberts trek across Canada,
is scheduled to start in St. John’s, NL on May 1st, 2013.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the
members of the Lodges in Newfoundland for welcoming
both Luc and I into their Lodges and taking such great
care of us. Thank you.
