GRANDE PRAIRIE <strong>ELK</strong>S LODGE NO. 285<br />

Grande Prairie <strong>Elks</strong> Lodge No. 285 hosted their annual Christmas Charity Dinner on Thursday, December 6, 2012.<br />

Twelve worthy community organizations and<br />

schools shared in $13,950.00. Grand Exalted<br />

Ruler, Brother Robert Larsen <strong>of</strong> our Lodge attended<br />

the presentations. On behalf <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Elks</strong>,<br />

Brother Robert thanked the recipients for their contributions<br />

to community The recipients graciously<br />

thanked the <strong>Elks</strong> for their generosity and support<br />

towards a better life and programs that make life<br />

sweeter, people better and the world happier.<br />

The <strong>Elks</strong> have been a major sponsor <strong>of</strong> the Grande<br />

Prairie Junior Curling program for 26 years. Several<br />

young ladies and gentlemen have graduated<br />

from the program to become Provincial, National<br />

and World Champions.<br />

Back left in the picture is Exalted Ruler Leonard Leer and third person over is Grand Exalted Ruler Brother Robert<br />

Larsen. The other people in the picture are representatives <strong>of</strong> the various organizations that received funding. To<br />

name a few they were: the Grande Prairie Scouts, Cubs and Beavers; Salvation Army; Kids toy lending department<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Grande Prairie Library and Junior Curlers.<br />

The Sign in front <strong>of</strong> the group is a joint venture between Grande Prairie <strong>Elks</strong> and City <strong>of</strong> Grande Prairie for a Kids<br />

Spray Park at a cost <strong>of</strong> $135,000.00. The project started in the spring <strong>of</strong> 2012 and was finished in late September<br />

and will be in full operation next season. It is located in the center <strong>of</strong> the city in what is known as Muskoseepi Park.<br />

BURNABY <strong>ELK</strong>S AND ROYAL PURPLE LODGES GIVE EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFTS<br />

Honoured Royal Lady Doreen Peniuk presented to Mrs. Dale Owen the Community School Co-ordinator for Stride<br />

Avenue Community School an early Christmas gift - a cheque in the amount <strong>of</strong> $1,000.00 to assist them with their<br />

school programs. Stride Avenue Community School believes in academic excellence and the pursuit <strong>of</strong> knowledge,<br />

skills and developing a positive attitude that leads to lifelong learning.<br />

Exalted Ruler Reg Seguin and Past Exalted Ruler Wally Govett<br />

presented to Mr. Peter Dubinsky, Principal <strong>of</strong> Edmonds Community<br />

School a cheque in the amount <strong>of</strong> $1,000.00 to assist them with their<br />

much needed meal programs for breakfast and lunch. Edmonds<br />

Community School is a safe, caring and welcoming School with a<br />

very sharp focus on academic excellence. They hold their students<br />

up to the highest <strong>of</strong> standards and their dedicated staff helps their<br />

students achieve those standards.<br />
