INSPIRING COMMUNITY LEADERS PROGRAM
The Elks asked how they could become a better, stronger more effective organization. The answer . . . . build a
strong base of leaders.
The “Leadership is Everyone’s Business” program written by James Kouzes and Barry Posner was selected,
and the need to come up with a name for this program was discussed. After several ideas, the goal to help communities,
made the choice easy, thus the name “Inspiring Community Leaders”.
A pilot project in Calgary, Alberta was held in April 2011. The next session was in November 2011 for the national
Executive and Provincial Presidents, followed by one held in Kamloops, British Columbia, in May 2012 and a joint
session between Saskatchewan and Manitoba was held in October, 2012.
Were they successful? – YES……a huge success. Here are some of the comments from the participants:
“These skills will go with me not only as an Elk member but my professional and personal life.”
“I thought I was prepared and a good Leader. I found out I was an average Leader but now have the tools to
be the Leader I want to be.”
“Awesome, very good for personal development. I would take this class again & again.
“Leadership starts with me.”
