The symbol rate describes the amount of data transmitted per second. The symbol<br />
rate is measured in MSymbols/s and is equal to the number of symbols that are<br />
received per second.<br />
A transponder is a satellite transmitter which transmits TV and radio signals. A<br />
satellite has several transponders.<br />
Analogue transponders transmit only one TV channel and possibly several radio<br />
channels on their transmit frequencies.<br />
Digital transponders simultaneously transmit several TV and several radio<br />
channels on their transmit frequencies. When a channel provider broadcasts<br />
several TV channels via a digital transponder this is referred to as the channel<br />
package of the channel provider. The terms "digital transponder" and "channel<br />
package" therefore have the same meaning.<br />
The video bit rate describes the quantity of data of the digitised video signal that is<br />
transmitted per second.<br />
The viterbirate (code rate, error rate) characterizes the type of error protection used<br />
by the channel provider. The <strong>DVB</strong> standard stipulates the following values: 1/2 -<br />
2/3 - 3/4 - 4/5 - 5/6 6/7 - 7/8.<br />
