Journey Through The Lakes & Dales
Journey Through The Lakes & Dales
12th – 17th September 6 Day Tour
This 6 day tour combines two wonderful parts of England - ‘The Lake District’ and ‘The
Yorkshire Dales’. We spend the first 2 nights in Kendal, visiting the many beautiful lakes
that draw millions of tourists every year. We then cross over the Pennines, exploring
Yorkshire’s beautiful Dales from our central base in the City of York.
Thur 12th: Letterkenny - Belfast - Cairnryan – Kendal
From Cairnryan we take a scenic journey along the Scottish borders and then south to
the town of Kendal and the Riverside Hotel, our home for the next 2 nights.
Fri 13th: Keswick - Northern Lakes
This morning we take a leisurely drive past the home of William Wordsworth before
visiting the market town of Keswick. In the afternoon we tour the Northern Lakes
including Ullswater, returning via the spectacular Kirkstone Pass.
Sat 14th: Lake Windermere - Boat Cruise - Pateley Bridge - York
“A morning in the lakes and an afternoon in the Dales”. We start the day with a visit to
the beautiful Bowness-on-Windermere, where we board our lake cruiser for a trip to
the southern shore. Here we rejoin the coach for our journey through the rolling dales,
stopping at the quaint village of Pateley Bridge, home of Britain’s oldest sweet shop.
This evening we arrive at our hotel in the centre of the City of York.
Sun 15th: Esholt (Emmerdale) - Harrogate
Today we visit the village of Esholt, used for the exterior filming of “Emmerdale”. The
village is no longer used for filming as the crew have now moved to a purpose built set,
but the village is still popular with fans wanting to see the pub formally used as the
Woolpack, and other buildings associated with the series. We spend the afternoon in
the award winning floral town of Harrogate, while here why not enjoy a cuppa in the
famous Betty’s Tea Room!
Mon 16th: Free Day in York
The beautiful medieval city of York has 2000 years of history in one compact city. With
our hotel’s central location we can really enjoy this viking city, whether it’s a visit to
the gothic cathedral, York Minster, admiring the city’s olde-style buildings, taking a
relaxing boat cruise on the River Ouse or indulging in a spot of shopping. Perhaps join
one of the city’s famous “Ghost Walks” tonight, if you dare!
Tue 17th: York - Cairnryan - Belfast - Letterkenny
We cross over the Pennines as we travel back to Gretna Green before making our way
