How Do You Choose the Right Vinyl Banner Material For Your Solvent Printer?
The materials on these pages have been proven to work for many of our customers. However, it’s important to experiment in
order to find your best choice. Here are some things to consider:
1. Some customers believe that a top-coated vinyl prints better than a non-top coated because of
less plasticizers on the surface.
2. Be careful about ounce weight claims. Some 13 oz vinyls may not be as strong as others.
It really depends on the scrim count and the denier. For example, 9x9 1000 denier is
stronger than 9x9 800 denier.
3. Sometimes the packaging is critical. Some manufacturers only box material, some use hard
tubes, and some use suspended cores with boxes. Dents or creases incurred in transit could
cause printing problems including “head strikes.”
4. All the solvent printable scrim banner materials we sell have Fire Resistance Certificates.
There are many other brands of banner material out there that cut corners and don’t meet
FR standards. Be aware that there are some arenas and other public facilities that require
FR Certificates. Bottom-line, make sure you know what you’re paying for. That bargain
banner material may not be a bargain after all if it doesn’t meet your job requirements.
