PICK-UP STICKS
AND BATTENS
Pick-Up sticks, also called shed sticks or
battens are used to pick up groups of warp
threads to create a pattern. Ideal for inkle,
tapestry, back-strap and Navajo looms.
Choose a stick that is a couple of inches wider
than your weaving.

For Navajo weaving try the elegant Dovetail beater or Schacht’s light weight beater. For
standard tapestries we think you’ll like Leclerc’s light weight beater or either of Louët’s. To
beat in the weft of heavy rugs, consider a weighted beater by Leclerc or Schacht.

Schacht’s, yet not too heavy for long hours of use. Its metal
teeth slide through the warp easily for a crisp, responsive beat.

The wooden teeth are just right for fine to medium warp
yarns and the narrow 1 1/2” width make it ideal for smaller
