Made in Maine Shotzee & Amelia Drop Spindles<br />
(Shown left) The Shotzee cherry drop spindle is 11” and weighs<br />
1.0-1.75 oz and the Amelia light weight figured maple<br />
with cherry shaft is 8” and weighs .5 to 1.0 oz. The two<br />
pieces are first roughed out and joined, then turned<br />
on the lathe as a unit to preserve balance for the<br />
longest spin. The stick is worked to have stops<br />
which prevent that annoying creep of the yarn<br />
cone down into the spinner’s fingers.<br />

Louët Drop Spindles<br />
Louët makes two styles of drop spindles — high whorls and low<br />
whorls. Both are essentially the same- 12” long, with cup hook at<br />
the top of the shaft, a 3.5” whorl. The shaft of the low-whorl drop<br />
spindle comes to a point below the whorl with the hook placed at<br />
