Procion MX - Fiber Reactive Dyes
Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes are simple to use and offer amazing versatility for the
adventurous dyer. Although they are specially formulated for cellulose fibers like cotton,
linen, ramie and rayon they also work well on silk. They are considered “cold water”
dyes because they react with the cellulose fibers at 90ºF - making them great for solar
dyeing, tie dyeing and batik. For plant fibers the only auxiliaries you will need are salt and
soda ash. Synthrapol, a wetting agent shown on page 32, is optional but very helpful for
rinsing excess dye out of your project. Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes can also be used on
protein fibers but you need different auxiliaries and the dye bath must be simmered. We
recommend the book, Hands On Dyeing for more information on using Procion dyes.
Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes are available in 41 colors and come in 4/5 oz reclosable
plastic jars. Each jar contains enough dye for 3 to 5 pounds of fiber, yarn or fabric. If you
are trying to match colors please request color card for accuracy.
coming up with your own colors. Now you can have those 10
shades of blue you wanted without having to search the world
over. 108 pgs .(paper, color). Item#: 57070000 • $19.95
Procion Warp Painting Kit
Warp painting is a wonderful way to add color to
otherwise simple weaving projects. Wind a warp
(cotton, linen, rayon, bamboo or silk) and paint it,
either in the chain for random splashes of color or at the
loom for more control. Warp Painting Kit includes: four
colors of Procion fiber reactive dyes (yellow, red, blue &
purple), the necessary auxiliaries and instructions.
The Ashford Book of Dyeing
Ann Milner
Milner examines many different ways of dyeing, with
many different materials. There are chapters on natural
dyeing, on batik, on dyeing for felting and for paper making,
the list goes on. She looks at many of the products
currently on the market, and gives recipes for using them.
She also explains innovative
techniques such as dyeing
in the microwave. Warp
painting is covered too. This
would be a good source of
information for someone
just beginning to work
with dyes, or for someone
more experienced who
wants to branch out and try
something new. 176 pgs.
