Head Girl<br />

My education at<br />

Morrison’s <strong>Academy</strong><br />

began in 1997 when I<br />

joined Miss Hay’s P3<br />

class. The eleven years I<br />

have spent at the<br />

school have passed very quickly and<br />

have given me many memorable<br />

moments. From the start I have been<br />

very involved with co-curricular<br />

activities, in particular sport, music<br />

and pipe band and all of these have<br />

given me huge enjoyment and<br />

challenges.<br />

One of my favourite memories is not<br />

one you will find on the list of official<br />

co-curricular activities. It was<br />

membership of the ‘Primary 4 Dirty<br />

Words’ Club’. This was founded by<br />

Sandy Jackson with Stephen Hamilton<br />

as chief researcher! Mrs Longmuir, our<br />

Primary 4 teacher, had been<br />

encouraging us to try to increase our<br />

vocabulary but I don’t think she<br />

intended us to meet every break time<br />

to discuss the new ‘dirty’ words found<br />

by the researchers. Unfortunately, one<br />

day I went home and put my newly<br />

found vocabulary into practice,<br />

causing Mrs Longmuir to find out and<br />

the club being banned!<br />

Many of my other interests also began<br />

when I was in the Primary school. I<br />

started to learn the ‘Cello and Piano<br />

in Primary 3 and have had the same<br />

teachers since. Thank you Mrs Smart<br />

and Mr Beetschen for ignoring the<br />

weeks I didn’t practice and also<br />

encouraging me to aim for grade 8.<br />

I also first wielded a hockey stick in<br />

Primary 3 and have loved the game<br />

ever since. Since Primary 6 I have<br />

played for the school teams. The high<br />

point of my hockey playing was the<br />

tour to Barcelona in 2006. This was a<br />

great experience with my friends and<br />

I have so many good memories from<br />

the week in Barcelona which I’ll never<br />

forget. This year I was honoured to<br />

captain the First XI. The team worked<br />

really well together and we had<br />

much enjoyment despite the fact that<br />

so many matches were cancelled<br />

because of bad weather.<br />

Trips to Northern Ireland with the<br />

Chamber Choir have also been<br />

special and provided many<br />

memorable moments: the massive<br />

puddings at the Wine bar in Portrush,<br />

singing al fresco at the Giant’s<br />

Causeway to the astonishment of the<br />

Head Boy and Head Girl The Morrisonian | 07/08 Page 171<br />

other tourists, and winning the<br />

competition in 2007. The Chamber<br />

Choir will be one of the things I will<br />

miss most as we have been a close<br />

knit group and I have made many<br />

very good friends in different years<br />

because of the Choir.<br />

This year has been busy, providing me<br />

with many new challenges and<br />

duties. I have really enjoyed being<br />

Head Girl and thank everyone in Sixth<br />

Year for their support throughout my<br />

tenure. I am sure, like me, they will<br />

also leave school with lasting<br />

memories of good times and lifelong<br />

friendships.<br />

It is quite a thought that after eleven<br />

years we are leaving school forever<br />

and venturing out into the world<br />

beyond Crieff. I have more than<br />

enjoyed my time at Morrison’s mainly<br />

because of the people I have met<br />

and the different opportunities I have<br />

been given. I would like to thank<br />

everyone for their friendship and wish<br />

them all the best of luck whatever<br />

they are going on to do!<br />
