S3 Hockey (cont.)<br />

confident mood for The Junior<br />

Midlands Tournament and was<br />

unlucky not to qualify from the<br />

section. Our solid and dependable<br />

defence enabled us to clear the ball<br />

from the danger zone and allow our<br />

attack some great opportunities<br />

which they capitalised on in a match<br />

against George Heriot’s School,<br />

winning 2-0. It was a very exciting and<br />

entertaining match for both the<br />

players and the spectators. Individual<br />

and team play improved dramatically<br />

towards the latter half of the term,<br />

resulting in some tough play and<br />

close matches against leading<br />

competitors.<br />

Another superb match took place<br />

against Queen Victoria School when,<br />

with 10 minutes to go, we were 3-1<br />

down. However Rachel Adamson<br />

then took the game well and truly to<br />

the opposition and we finished 4 - 3<br />

victors.<br />

At the Junior Indoor Tournament in<br />

January the team showed some great<br />

skills and was unfortunate not to<br />

qualify for the later stages despite<br />

only losing one match. Unfortunately<br />

the weather in January and February<br />

meant a lot of cancellations of<br />

practices and matches so when our<br />

final match against Madras College<br />

came round we had almost forgotten<br />

where Dallerie was! We finished in style<br />

with a comprehensive 5-1 victory which<br />

was well deserved as we played with<br />

great enthusiasm and skill. The passing,<br />

individual skills and team play were<br />

much admired by the spectators.<br />

With high spirits from such a<br />

memorable year we celebrated our<br />

hockey season with a meal in Perth,<br />

where individual awards were made<br />

to some team members for various<br />

achievements. However everyone<br />

contributed to the success of the<br />

season and all are to be<br />

commended for their efforts.<br />

S2 Hockey<br />

The S2 girls’ hockey season was much<br />

disrupted this year with only nine<br />

matches played out of a possible<br />

eighteen. On a number of occasions<br />

it has seemed that just as the girls<br />

began to play as a strong team unit<br />

with both the attack and defence<br />

playing increasingly skilful and<br />

effective hockey, the rain would start<br />

and match after match was<br />

cancelled.<br />

That said, the late summer sunshine<br />

which lasted well into <strong>Oct</strong>ober<br />

ensured our early matches against St.<br />

George’s School, Robert Gordon’s<br />

College and Madras College went<br />

ahead. The team were unlucky to<br />

lose 2 - 0 to St. George’s in their first<br />

game of the season and<br />

consequently came out in fighting<br />

spirit to face Robert Gordon’s the<br />

following weekend. Dallerie became<br />

something of a battle site that<br />

morning with both teams performing<br />

passages of excellent play with hard<br />

fought tackles from both sides.<br />

Despite goals from Marianne Inglis<br />

and Jenny Lovegrove and an early<br />

lead, the team was very unlucky to<br />

lose 3-2.<br />

In their final match before the<br />

Christmas break, all the girls’ efforts in<br />

training and after-school practices<br />

over the course of the term paid off<br />

with an exciting 2 – 0 win over Trinity<br />

<strong>Academy</strong>. The girls worked hard to<br />

support each other in attack and<br />

through fast and effective ball<br />

distribution were able to dominate<br />

the opposition. Lindsey MacDonald’s<br />

second half goal was an absolute<br />

cracker and surely a front runner for<br />

this year’s goal of the season!<br />

The New Year started with rain which<br />

sadly didn’t really stop until March,<br />

leaving only two fixtures for our S2<br />

girls. In these final two matches the
