S t s e p q w 2 0 1 2 • 4 Community Road Updates Here is a brief update on the road construction planned for this fiscal year. Between August 27th and September 10th ,work should be completed on the installation of arch culverts and 60 m of road construction at 54 km. By November, a joint project between Ministry of Forests and the Lower Stl’atl’imx Tribal Council at 36.5 km – 37.7 km (1.6 km long) should be completed. Ministry of Forests will be closing bids for construction in flooding areas between 23.4 km – 24.91 km on August 28th. Total road improvements of 3.7 km will be done at an investment of $1.2 million. Change in Management for Tsek July 26, 2012 Passal, (Allen Gabriel) allen.gabriel@inshuckch.com Dear In-SHUCK-ch Nation Citizens Re: Management of Tsek Hot Spring and Campground The Sea to Sky Onsen (SSOI) has been managing the Tsek Hot Spring and Campground since April 1, 2009. The operation standard at Úcwalmicw Tsek is now comparable to other professionally managed public bathing facilities in BC. The vast majority of visitors have been co-operative and accepting of the changes at Tsek. While some resistance to change was expressed initially, it lessened over time. Visitors have begun to respect the property more and the number of visitors has increased. In 2011, there were 8,434 visitors to Tsek which included a 40% increase in First Nation visitors. The noise and security control of the facilities has improved to the point that it is similar to those at other BC Park campsite operations. Some of the improvements include: • a reduction in late night parties and trespassers; • a reduction in alcohol consumption that is consistent with consumptions observed at BC Park Campsites; • a reduction in violence and property damage; • a transformation to a familyoriented destination; • an increased respect of the property; • increased property maintenance; and • improved amenities. Despite the improvements to the property, they inevitably come at a cost. Since the daily operations have stabilized, In-SHUCK-ch Development Corporation (IDC) will now be implementing a new management structure that will result in operational efficiencies to help pay down the expenses incurred. More specifically, IDC will be contracting Robin Trethewey to manage the Tsek Hot Spring Photo.soure:.http://www.johnharveyphoto.com/TwoHot- Springs/BlueTubWithBearLg.jpg and Campground effective August 1, 2012. Robin is no stranger to the property and has ties to the community. We look forward to working with him in the future.
