Suddenly an echo comes from the round glow embedded in a tree trunk which grows through half of the shack. XANDRELL (O.O.V) Maxxam, hello? MAXXAM jumps and leans eagerly towards the round glow. (Pause) MAXXAM Xandrell! It’s me! I’ve been waiting for hours. Where is she? She should have reported by now. XANDRELL (O.O.V) There’s been an unfortunate accident. Jadrien has been taken into heart of the Mutant Arbors forest. MAXXAM (IMPATIENTLY) That’s what we want isn’t? XANDRELL (O.O.V) Riley has also been abducted. MAXXAM’S face drops and he places a nervous hand over his
head. MAXXAM That wasn’t part of the plan. XANDRELL (O.O.V) I know. Our spies have located her position but we can’t get a visual on her. Once we step into the red zone our men will be splatters. We’ve resorted to hiding in the purple leaves section. MAXXAM Well, we always knew this wasn’t going to be easy. But now that her husband’s been taken... XANDRELL (O.O.V) She might have to cooperate with the Mutant Arbors. MAXXAM puts another hand on his head and clenches his teeth. In an abrupt movement he smashes down his fist onto the bark of the tree. MAXXAM Which means she’s not going to complete her mission! Everything we’ve planned will be a complete waste of time! How do we know she hasn’t spilled top-secret information we’ve discussed already? XANDRELL (O.O.V) She’s a trained spy. She’ll know what to do. MAXXAM She was supposed to be the one to end the war! She’s our only hope! XANDRELL (O.O.V) Maxxam, cool it. I told you, she’s been trained well. She’ll know what to do. I know Jadrien. However much she loves her husband, she won’t let that distract her from her goal. MAXXAM sighs and slumps on his stool. 150
