1. Set in place an effective governance<br />
board by year-end: The Board of<br />
Directors now:<br />
a. Set the strategic plan <strong>annual</strong>ly;<br />
b. Review and approves the business<br />
plan and budget prepared by the<br />
Executive Officer;<br />
c. Review monthly financials and<br />
progress on the business plan; and<br />
d. Review and approve the board slate<br />
for the coming year, as prepared by<br />
the Nominating Committee, chaired<br />
by the Past President, thereby<br />
ensuring continuity.<br />
2. Ensure a fully engaged GR Committee<br />
and strategy by year-end; the GR<br />
Committee, under the chairmanship of<br />
the Vice President and supported by the<br />
Government Relations Manager:<br />
a. Has a business plan guiding its<br />
activities;<br />
b. Regularly meets with and delivers<br />
presentations to all of the major<br />
jurisdictions in the Capital Region,<br />
especially the City of Edmonton and<br />
the other five major municipalities;<br />
c. Is in regular contact with the Capital<br />
Region Board;<br />
d. Contributes a member to the<br />
provincial GR Committee; and<br />
e. Engages in significant consultations<br />
and partnerships throughout the<br />
Capital Region to the benefit of the<br />
industry.<br />
3. Deliver a strong industry conference in<br />
Apr <strong>2011</strong>; RCIC <strong>2011</strong>:<br />
a. Attracted 604 delegates;<br />
b. Hosted 70 tradeshow exhibitors;<br />
c. Delivered 93 presentations in 8<br />
concurrent sessions;<br />
d. Hosted an Icebreaker and a Windup<br />
reception; and<br />
e. Generated a profit in excess of<br />
$100,000.<br />
4. Show more effective engagement in the<br />
<strong>Home</strong> and Interior Design Show and the<br />
Renovation Show: This continues to be a<br />
work in progress. For each event we:<br />
a. Mounted a major <strong>CHBA</strong>-ER exhibit;<br />
b. Provided 5,000 logoed bags; and<br />
c. Identified member exhibitors with<br />
a <strong>CHBA</strong>-ER panel to display at their<br />
exhibits.<br />
5. Meet or exceed forecasted profit:<br />
a. Generated a $319K loss versus a<br />
$50K surplus as a result of lower-<br />
than-budgeted revenue and<br />
sponsorship for RCIC as well as<br />
the two Shows, in addition to lower-<br />
than-budgeted turnout for our<br />
