1.1.1.0.5 Economics Committee<br />
<strong>CHBA</strong>-ER’s Economics Committee meets on<br />
a bi-monthly basis. It monitors and discusses<br />
trends in the Edmonton Region economy,<br />
labor market, and land supply and housing<br />
markets. Members discuss current business<br />
conditions and offer insights.<br />
Every January, the committee produces<br />
a consensus forecast for housing starts<br />
which is provided to the Association for<br />
discussion at the <strong>annual</strong> forecast dinner. The<br />
Committee Chair writes a bimonthly market<br />
update for the Industry Insider magazine<br />
which includes a statistical summary<br />
table that highlights key activities in the<br />
local labor market and the new and resale<br />
housing markets.<br />
The Committee is currently looking at<br />
broadening its mandate to better serve the<br />
interests of the Association. It is looking at<br />
establishing a subcommittee that would<br />
organize a semi-<strong>annual</strong> roundtable and<br />
economic forecasting exercise. The results<br />
of these roundtable consultations would<br />
be shared with the Committee and broader<br />
Association membership.<br />
