12 breakfast, luncheons and dinner meetings; b. Despite this deficit, the Association did generate $1M more in revenue in 2011 than in it did in 2010. 6. Have not less than 450 members by year-end: Despite recruiting 85 new members in 2011, the Association ended the year with an increase in membership from 387 to 433, 17 below our targeted number. 7. Engage in full operation of all planned technical committees and delivery of stated outcomes: Our technical committees, or ‘industry committees’ as they are now called, have by and large been very active over the past year: a. Addressing industry issues; b. Delivering presentations; c. Generating articles for the Industry Insider magazine; and d. Supporting the RCIC 2011 program. 8. Continue development of the Volunteer Management Program to full operation of all committees by year-end: The CHBA-ER: a. Now enjoys the committed support of just over 300 volunteers, up from 250 in 2010; b. Hosted a well-attended Volunteer Recognition Evening in November; c. Continues development of a comprehensive volunteer database, in support of committees’ and the Association’s HR needs. 9. Launch a CHBA-ER magazine: The Industry Insider published its first issue in September 2010 and has since: a. Published 7 issues for the program year, ending Aug 31, 2011; b. Published each issue at a profit; c. Regularly published 36-page + issues full of relevant industry content. 10. Become more effectively engaged in the continuing education of the industry: The Professional Development Committee is just getting underway and will be establishing itself in 2012. 11. Introduce the Business Luncheon Program: The Business Luncheon Program kicked off in September and delivered 9 luncheons over the course of the program year. While the program operated at a small profit, attendance was less than planned for. The program is currently being restructured to offer more relevant topics to the industry. 12. Deliver a comprehensive and effective industry awards program: The 2011 Awards of Excellence hosted nearly 1200 guests and generated a profit of over $90K, one of the Association`s largest revenue generators. The Awards received over 155 submissions using the new online submission and judging program. Refinements will continue into 2012. 13. Develop and implement an effective Public Relations Plan: This program is being rolled into a revised Marketing Committee that will get underway in 2012. That notwithstanding, the 2011 Marketing Committee launched an effective `Look For The Logo` campaign that was carried out in local media and at both the Home and Interior Design Show and the Renovation Show;
14. Develop and implement an effective Media Relations Plan: This program is also being rolled into the revised Marketing Committee that will get underway in 2012. 15. Perform regular surveys: The Association has been using the website to gain some member input on specific topics. We will be conducting a membership-wide survey in 2012, similar to the one done in 2010; 16. Experience no more than 10% staff attrition (1 person): Joy Van Marck, our Member Relations Manager and Karen Morris, our Executive Assistant, left the Association this summer. Shelly Portmann completed her maternity contract with us, and Kimberley Banford rejoined the staff as Programs and Services Manager. It has been a busy year and the CHBA-ER continues to grow and improve. 2012 will be devoted to getting our fiscal house in order, while at the same time polishing those programs and services that you, the membership, support. I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their continued support of my efforts, my staff for their commitment and dedication to both the Association and the ambitious plan we have embarked upon, and, especially, our volunteers, without whom none of this would have been possible.
