THE VARIED ROLES OF SNAILS - National Universities Commission

Okafor (1989, 1990, and 1992), Ozumba et al., (1989),
Betterton and Fryer (1982), Fryer (1986), Emejulu et al;
(1994), Anosike et al; (1992), Adewunmi et al.,(1990), to
mention important few, are good for further reading to
understand the epidemiology of the disease and the role of
different snail species in its transmission.
The studies further present check lists of freshwater snails
in the various ecoological zones of Nigeria. Roles of the
snails in the aquatic food chains and the prominent roles
they play as intermediate hosts of trematode parasites of
wild animals are pointed out.
