Is fi re protection required for metal roofs?
Sustainable Construction -
For standalone buildings, the metal roof need not be fi re protected.
However for buildings of different heights that abut each other,
5m width of the roof over the lower part requires 1 hour fire resistance
OR
9m height of the external wall abutting the lower area requires at least 1
hour fire resistance.
This is to prevent vertical spread of fire
through the roof from the lower part of the
building to the higher part.
In such cases, fire-rated ceiling board system
can be used to provide the necessary fire
protection.
