A fire starts in a given building, and
Occupants fail to extinguish the fire, and
Automated fire sprinklers fail to control or extinguish the fire, and
Fire continues to grow, but only on the storey of origin or
on floors connected by a void, until the fire fighters
intervene to control and extinguish it.
In the event that a major fire develops and the automated fire sprinklers fail to control or extinguish
the fire, the performance-based design is to ensure that the structural adequacy of the building frame
is maintained until the fi re fi ghters intervene.
