Split Box – Details on using the VSU for cutting the top off the box to form the lid.
In notes 29 and 31, I give details on using the VSU (Variable Space Upgrade) to make a pin
wider in the center of the board. I often use this for decorative effect, and also for use with
my wooden hinges where I split the box in half to form the lid. For most situations where you
are cutting the top off the box to form the lid, this will not be in the middle, but about a 1/4 or
1/3 of the way down from the top of the box. This situation is slightly different, so I will run
through the procedure again:
