This is a lowland sedge that is largely restricted to sou<strong>the</strong>rn England (Jermy et al. 2007). In<br />

<strong>Huntingdonshire</strong> it is a rare species <strong>of</strong> hedge banks, green lanes and ancient woodland.<br />

south and east. It is rarer in <strong>the</strong> Midlands owing to losses through drainage (Jermy et al.<br />

2007).<br />

This species is still widespread in Scotland, Wales and north-west England but was never<br />

common and is now much reduced over <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> its English range, including in <strong>the</strong> Fens <strong>of</strong><br />

East Anglia.<br />
