Prajapati. They had three sons: Datta, Durvasa and Soma. Rama, the son of<br />
Dasaratha, visited Atri Maharishi's Ashram during his fourteen years of stay in the<br />
forest. It was Atri who showed the way to Dandakaranya forest to Rama, after<br />
showering his hospitality on him. Atri Maharishi is considered to be one of the great<br />
discoverers of sacred Mantras of Hinduism. In his family line there were a few other<br />
seers of mantras namely: Shaavaashva, Avishtir, and Purvaatithi. There were also<br />
other great Rishis in that line: Mudgala, Uddaalaki, Shaakalaayani, Chaandogya,<br />
etc. Atri-samhita and Atri-smriti are two works attributed to Atri.<br />

Avadhoot An avadhoot (also spelled Avadhut) is a mystic who has risen above bodyconsciousness,<br />
duality, and worldly concerns. The term is described in one text as<br />
one who is free from the consciousness of the ego, roaming free like a child over<br />
the face of the earth. An avadhut does not identify with the body, mind or<br />
emotions. Such a person is said to be pure consciousness in human form. The<br />
nature of the avadhut is the subject of the Avadhut Gita, the authorship of which is<br />
traditionally ascribed to Dattatreya.<br />

The first of the four Ashrams or stages of life, through which the Brahmin passes-<br />

Brahma-rakshas A haughty, disdainful spirit of a Brahmin.<br />
Brahmarshi Brahmarshi (from the Sanskrit words Brahma and Rishi) is the highest of the<br />
Rishis, the Hindu sages - one who has understood the meaning of Brahman. The<br />
title of Brahmarshi was a status defined and recognized in the sacred Vedas of<br />
Vedic religion. A Brahmarshi is the ultimate expert of religion and spiritual<br />
knowledge. Below him are the Maharshis (Great Rishis). The Saptarshis created out<br />
of Brahma's thoughts are perfect brahmarshis. They are greater than the Devas in<br />
power and piety. Vishwamitra was the only brahmarshi who rose to the position out<br />
of pure tapasya, a journey lasting tens of thousands of years as explained within<br />
Hindu mythology. Originally belonging to the kshatriya caste of kings and warriors,<br />
