2. Prepositions.<br />

300. MH prepositions are all <strong>of</strong> Heb. origin. They include<br />

{a) BH prepositions preserved in their old significance; {d) BH<br />

nouns or other forms turned by MH into prepositions, e. g. HDn<br />

wrath : HOHD through the fury <strong>of</strong>, the energy, or activity <strong>of</strong>—<br />

through, by; "b t^TP preceding, before; so '^y^V; 33 by<br />

upon the back <strong>of</strong>, upon; njD by on the portion <strong>of</strong>, for the<br />

advantage <strong>of</strong>, for the sake <strong>of</strong>, on condition, in order that; so<br />

name, subject, and its various combinations.<br />

The following BH prepositions have been lost in MH:<br />

( = Dy), bb??, n^3y3, nya, b^D, |yp|) and fS (Aram. p9).<br />

301. "^^riK the back, is used as a prepos. in the dual D^^l^nt^<br />

(§ 293), in the sense <strong>of</strong> * behind', corresponding to (below).<br />
