LIFESAVING SOCIETY Bronze Medal Programs Bronze Star Prerequisite: 11+ Years recommended Keep your swim skills up and challenge yourself to a 400m timed swim. Learn valuable CPR and first aid skills and basic search and water rescue techniques. Work as part of a team, do a search pattern, and perform low-risk rescues. Your new lifesaving skills will be practiced in situations that may occur at home, on the beach, or near ice. Bronze Star prepares you to take your Bronze Medallion. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance for a timed swim 500m. Completing Bronze Medallion also certifies the swimmer with a CPR-A certificate. 26 FOUNTAIN PARK RECREATION CENTRE LIFESAVING SOCIETY Advanced Leadership Junior Lifeguard Club Are you ready for another challenge and some serious fun? Want to be on a high energy team? The Lifesaving Society’s Junior Lifeguard Club is the place to be if you are 7 - 15 years old. In your Junior Lifeguard Club you’ll get to learn to be a lifesaver, stay fit and have a lot of fun doing it. You set your own goals to earn seals that go into your Waterlog. Through your Junior Lifeguard Club you can help out in the community by teaching others how to be Water Smart. If you want, you can travel with your team to competitive lifesaving events and set your personal best times! There will be opportunities to work on Canadian Lifesaving Program content. All candidates must be able to swim 50 metres and tread water 2 min. CODE DAY DATES TIMES FEE 20057 Su Sep 23-Dec 09 1:00 - 4:00pm $125 Preschool Instructor Prerequisites: Candidates must be 14 1/2+ years old and hold a current Bronze Cross. We recommend completion of Awesome Aquatic Assistants Level 1 & 2 This is a skill based course with the intent that those who take it will experience and participate in pre-school activities & how pre-school aged children learn. Successful completion of this class will give you the Lifesaving Society’s Preschool Proficiency award. CODE DAY DATES TIMES FEE 20047 Tu-Th Sep 11-Sep 13 4:30 - 8:30pm $78.75 Swim For Life and Lifesaving Instructor Prerequisites: 16 years of age and current Bronze Cross or higher. Lifesaving Instructors are trained to teach and evaluate Swim for Life program levels, Canadian Swim Patrol awards, and the Bronze level certifications. Topics covered include various approaches to teaching water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills in these lifesaving programs. Candidates learn about long and short term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation. Completion of this course also certifies the individual with their Lifesaving CPR Instructor. CODE DAY DATES TIMES FEE 20048 Sa Oct 13-Nov 17 9:00am - 5:00pm $288.86 NLS Package Recertification Prerequisite(s): Current NLS, AEC, O2, AED awards Every two years you must re-certify your National Lifeguard (NLS), Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC), Oxygen Administration (O2), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) awards. This recertification exam re-tests all skill items as well as provides any updated information. Successful completion of these exams will extend the certification for another two years.
