Junior Lifeguard Club<br />

Are you ready for another challenge and some<br />

serious fun? Want to be on a high energy team?<br />

The Lifesaving Society’s Junior Lifeguard Club is the<br />

place to be if you are 7 - 15 years old. In your Junior<br />

Lifeguard Club you’ll get to learn to be a lifesaver,<br />

stay fit and have a lot <strong>of</strong> fun doing it. You set your<br />

own goals to earn seals that go into your Waterlog.<br />

Through your Junior Lifeguard Club you can help out<br />

in the community by teaching others how to be Water<br />

Smart. If you want, you can travel with your team to<br />

competitive lifesaving events and set your personal<br />

best times! There will be opportunities to work on<br />

Canadian Lifesaving <strong>Program</strong> content. All candidates<br />

must be able to swim 50 metres and tread water 2 min.<br />

Preschool Instructor<br />

Prerequisites: Candidates must be 14 1/2+<br />

years old and hold a current Bronze Cross. We<br />

recommend completion <strong>of</strong> Awesome Aquatic<br />

Assistants Level 1 & 2<br />

This is a skill based course with the intent that those<br />

who take it will experience and participate in pre-school<br />

activities & how pre-school aged children learn. Successful<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> this class will give you the Lifesaving<br />

Society’s Preschool Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency award.<br />

Swim For Life and Lifesaving Instructor<br />

Prerequisites: 16 years <strong>of</strong> age and current Bronze<br />

Cross or higher.<br />

Lifesaving Instructors are trained to teach and evaluate<br />

Swim for Life program levels, Canadian Swim Patrol<br />

awards, and the Bronze level certifications. Topics<br />

covered include various approaches to teaching<br />

water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills in<br />

these lifesaving programs. Candidates learn about<br />

long and short term planning, class management,<br />

safety supervision and the principles <strong>of</strong> evaluation.<br />

Completion <strong>of</strong> this course also certifies the individual<br />

with their Lifesaving CPR Instructor.<br />

NLS Package Recertification<br />

Prerequisite(s): Current NLS, AEC, O2, AED awards<br />

Every two years you must re-certify your National<br />

Lifeguard (NLS), Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC),<br />

Oxygen Administration (O2), and Automatic External<br />

Defibrillator (AED) awards. This recertification exam<br />

re-tests all skill items as well as provides any updated<br />

information. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> these exams will<br />

extend the certification for another two years.<br />
