Timothy Goodw<strong>in</strong> House. John Leach of <strong>Marblehead</strong> built a house upon that part of this lot of l<strong>and</strong> ly<strong>in</strong>g<br />

westerly of the dashes, <strong>and</strong> had not f<strong>in</strong>ished it when he died <strong>in</strong> 1688. His widow Sarah married Timothy<br />

Goodw<strong>in</strong> of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, mason, <strong>and</strong> to him the trustees for the commoners of <strong>Marblehead</strong> conveyed the lot<br />

March 30, 1691.‡ Mrs. Goodw<strong>in</strong>, as adm<strong>in</strong>istratrix of her former husb<strong>and</strong>, Mr. Leach, with her then<br />

husb<strong>and</strong>, for forty-eight pounds, conveyed the house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> to Nathaniel Walton of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, shipcarpenter,<br />

Dec. 12, 1698;** <strong>and</strong> four days later, Mr. Walton, for a similar consideration, reconveyed the<br />

same estate to Mr. Goodw<strong>in</strong>.††<br />

That part of the lot ly<strong>in</strong>g easterly of the dashes was a part of the lot sold by the town of <strong>Marblehead</strong> to<br />

Thomas C<strong>and</strong>igh of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, mar<strong>in</strong>er, Dec. 11, 1677.* For five pounds, Mr. C<strong>and</strong>ish conveyed this<br />

part of the lot, be<strong>in</strong>g a part of his garden, to Mr. Goodw<strong>in</strong> March 3, l696-7.†<br />

Mr. Goodw<strong>in</strong> died Sept 25, 1701. <strong>The</strong> house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> adjo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g were then valued at n<strong>in</strong>ety-five pounds.<br />

Samuel Goodw<strong>in</strong> of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, mar<strong>in</strong>er, son of the deceased, released to his sister Mary, wife of Ebenezer<br />

Stacy of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, cooper, his <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> the house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> under <strong>and</strong> around it March 10, 1723-4‡ <strong>The</strong><br />

widow of Timothy Goodw<strong>in</strong> had occupied the house s<strong>in</strong>ce her husb<strong>and</strong>'s death. How much longer the house<br />

stood is not known.<br />

Thomas C<strong>and</strong>ige House. This was a part of the lot sold by the town of <strong>Marblehead</strong> to Thomas C<strong>and</strong>ige<br />

Dec. 11. 1677.* Mr. C<strong>and</strong>ege built a house upon the lot <strong>and</strong> lived <strong>in</strong> it, be<strong>in</strong>g a fisherman. He died late <strong>in</strong><br />

1713. In his will, dated Aug. 21, 1713, <strong>and</strong> proved Dec. 31, 1713, he devised his estate to his wife Sarah for<br />

her life, <strong>and</strong> at her decease to his sons Thomas C<strong>and</strong>ige <strong>and</strong> James C<strong>and</strong>ige. <strong>The</strong> dwell<strong>in</strong>g house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong><br />

were appraised <strong>in</strong> 1713 at n<strong>in</strong>ety pounds. <strong>The</strong> widow died <strong>in</strong> August, 1737, <strong>and</strong> the "old dwell<strong>in</strong>g house" <strong>and</strong><br />

l<strong>and</strong> were then valued .at one hundred <strong>and</strong> eighty pounds. <strong>The</strong> house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> became Thomas' wholly, <strong>and</strong><br />

the house was probably gone before 1758, when he died.<br />

Richard Sk<strong>in</strong>ner House. This lot was sold by the town •of <strong>Marblehead</strong> to Richard Sk<strong>in</strong>ner March 13,<br />

1682-3.* Mr. Sk<strong>in</strong>ner was a mar<strong>in</strong>er, <strong>and</strong> built a house upon the l<strong>and</strong>. This was his homestead ; <strong>and</strong> he<br />

died, possessed of it, March 9, 1726-7. Ebenezer Burrill, esq., of Lynn, guardian of Deacon Sk<strong>in</strong>ner's<br />

two children, John <strong>and</strong> Alice Sk<strong>in</strong>ner, conveyed the "mansion house," with a warehouse <strong>and</strong> barn, to<br />

Jonathan Proctor of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, .shoreman, May 24, 1743. § How long the house stood after this date is<br />

not known, but certa<strong>in</strong>ly for many years. He was liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the house <strong>in</strong> 1759, <strong>and</strong> was then a<br />

merchant. In 1795, the "old cellar of the house formerly belong<strong>in</strong>g to Jonathan Proctor, deceased," is<br />

mentioned.*<br />

Estate of Thomas Nicholson House. This lot was sold by the town of <strong>Marblehead</strong> to Thomas Nicholson of<br />

<strong>Marblehead</strong>, a mar<strong>in</strong>er, March 13, 1682-3.† Upon this l<strong>and</strong> he built a house, <strong>in</strong> which he lived. He died before<br />

Jan. 2, 1693-4, when adm<strong>in</strong>istration upon his estate was granted to his widow Elizabeth Nicholson, who married<br />

Richard Crofts thirteen days later. <strong>The</strong> house <strong>and</strong> lot were then appraised at sixty pounds. Elizabeth, daughter of<br />

Thomas Nicholson, married, first, John Westlake May 24, 1705; <strong>and</strong>, second, Samuel Harris of <strong>Marblehead</strong>,<br />

jo<strong>in</strong>er, Oct. 20, 1715. Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Harris conveyed the house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> to Richard Dana of <strong>Marblehead</strong>,<br />

gentleman, Sept. 24, 1731;‡ <strong>and</strong> ten days later Mr. Dana reconveyed the estate to Mr. Harris.§ <strong>The</strong> house was
