John Codner Lot. John Codner of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, fisherman, owned this lot <strong>in</strong> 1699, <strong>and</strong> died possessed of<br />
it <strong>in</strong> the early spr<strong>in</strong>g of 1710.<br />
Nathaniel Norden Lot. This part of the pla<strong>in</strong> farm, conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g thirty-n<strong>in</strong>e acres <strong>and</strong> one hundred <strong>and</strong><br />
thirty-five rods, belonged to Moses Maverick of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, hav<strong>in</strong>g been assigned to him, <strong>in</strong> the division,<br />
for fifteen pounds. He died Jan. 28, 1685-6, <strong>and</strong>, by agreement of the heirs, Archibald Ferguson of<br />
<strong>Marblehead</strong>, mar<strong>in</strong>er, <strong>and</strong> Moses Hawke of Lynn, planter, as their attorneys, for sixty-five pounds, conveyed<br />
this lot to Nathaniel Norden, Esq., of <strong>Marblehead</strong> Sept. 4, 1699.§ Mr. Norden died, possessed of it, March 1,<br />
1727-8.<br />

John Legg artd Samuel Legg Lot. John. Legg of <strong>Marblehead</strong> owned this lot very early <strong>and</strong> died, possessed<br />
of it, <strong>in</strong> the early part of 1674. This eight acres of the pla<strong>in</strong> farm was devised to his three sons,<br />
Samuel, John <strong>and</strong> youngest son Daniel. It was then valued at seventeen pounds. Daniel died, unmarried,<br />
before March 16, 1690, when his brothers, Capt Samuel Legg of Boston, mar<strong>in</strong>er, the eldest son, <strong>and</strong> John<br />
Legg of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, merchant, made a division of it, Samuel tak<strong>in</strong>g the northeastern part,* <strong>and</strong> John the<br />
southwestern part,* <strong>and</strong> they owned their respective portions <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

Estate of Richard Rowl<strong>and</strong> Lot. That part of this lot ly<strong>in</strong>g westerly of the westerly dashes was the ten-acre lot<br />
owned by Mr. Ruck who sold it to Richard Rowl<strong>and</strong> of <strong>Marblehead</strong> before 1672.<br />
<strong>The</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>der of this lot was made up of three ten-acre lots which were owned at an early date by Moses<br />
Maverick of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, merchant, who, for fifty pounds, conveyed them to Mr. Rowl<strong>and</strong> Aug. 25, 1672.†<br />
Mr. Rowl<strong>and</strong> died, possessed of the entire lot of forty acres, <strong>in</strong> the summer of 1685, hav<strong>in</strong>g devised it to his<br />
son John Rowl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> the latter's children. John Rowl<strong>and</strong> died, leav<strong>in</strong>g no issue, before Dec. 4, 1693, when<br />
adm<strong>in</strong>istration was granted to his widow, Abigail Rowl<strong>and</strong>, who subsequently married -------- Ca<strong>in</strong>e. <strong>The</strong><br />
l<strong>and</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>ed a part of the estate of Richard Rowl<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />
In this lot are the famous "dungeons" or kettle holes made by the glaciers.<br />
†Essex Registry of Deeds, book 3, leaf 168. <strong>The</strong> easterly ten-acre lot is mentioned as be<strong>in</strong>g owned by<br />
Robert Bartlett <strong>in</strong> 1680.<br />
Jeremiah Gatchell Lot. That part of this lot ly<strong>in</strong>g westerly of the western dashes was a ten-acre lot that<br />
belonged to Thomas Oliver of Salem, callendar, before July 5, 1658, when he conveyed it to John Bradstreet of<br />
Salem.‡ This deed mentions the "old Indian fort" <strong>in</strong> the south end of the lot. John Gatchell of <strong>Marblehead</strong>,<br />
planter, conveyed this lot to his son Jeremiah Gatchell of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, wheelwright, <strong>and</strong> his children April 17,<br />
1680.§<br />
<strong>The</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>der of this lot orig<strong>in</strong>ally consisted of two ten-acre lots, which belonged to James Underwood,<br />
baker, <strong>and</strong> Abraham Williams before 18: 7: 1651, when they conveyed them to John Gatchell of <strong>Marblehead</strong>,<br />
planter.||<br />
That part of the lot ly<strong>in</strong>g between the dashes was conveyed by Mr. Gatchell to his son Jeremiah Gatchell<br />
May 1, 1682.<br />
That part of the lot ly<strong>in</strong>g easterly of the easterly dashes was conveyed by John Gatchell to his son Jeremiah<br />
Gatchell, for twenty-five pounds, Feb. 8, 1682-3.*<br />
Jeremiah Gatchell owned the whole lot for many years after <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

George Bonfield Lot. Moses Maverick owned the eastern part of this lot early <strong>and</strong> conveyed it to William<br />
Beale, sr., of <strong>Marblehead</strong> before Dec. 8, 1674. <strong>The</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>der of the lot belonged at an early date to John<br />
Bradstreet, who died possessed of it, about 1660. He was childless, <strong>and</strong> his brother Moses Bradstreet, <strong>and</strong>
