Richard Reith Lot. Robert Knight of <strong>Marblehead</strong> owned this lot <strong>in</strong> 1652. He removed to<br />

Manchester, <strong>and</strong> sold six acres of it to Richard Reith of <strong>Marblehead</strong> Sept. 22, 1686,* <strong>and</strong> the rema<strong>in</strong>der of<br />

the lot, for five pounds <strong>and</strong> five shill<strong>in</strong>gs, Oct. 20, 1687.† Mr. Reith owned the whole lot <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

Joanna Codner Lot. This lot consisted of one <strong>and</strong> one-half ten-acre lots, the whole lot be<strong>in</strong>g the eastern<br />

portion of this lot. It was owned by Abraham Whiteare of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, fisherman, before 7: 10 mo. 1652, when<br />

he conveyed it to Edmond Chapman of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, shipwright.‡ Mr. Chapman died <strong>in</strong> or before 1664, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

lot belonged to Joanna Codner, wife of John Codner, <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>. Mrs. Codner was probably either widow or<br />

daughter of Mr. Chapman.<br />

Estate of William Bartoll House. This lot was the western half of the ten-acre lot of Abraham Whiteare<br />

of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, fisherman, 7: 10 mo: 1652, when, with the Joanna Codner lot, he sold it to Edmond Chapman,<br />

shipwright, <strong>and</strong> William Bartoll, both of <strong>Marblehead</strong>.‡ <strong>The</strong> deed was made to Mr. Chapman only. Mr.<br />

Chapman died before Dec. 1, 1664, when John Codner <strong>and</strong> his wife Joanna, adm<strong>in</strong>istratrix of Mr. Chapman's<br />

estate, released their part of the lot to Mr. Bartoll.§ Mr. Bartoll built a house upon the lot, <strong>and</strong> lived<br />

there until his death, which occurred before June 18, 1691, when adm<strong>in</strong>istration upon his estate was<br />

granted. <strong>The</strong> house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> belonged to his estate <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>. How much longer the house stood is<br />

unknown.<br />

Robert Bartlett Lot. This lot of l<strong>and</strong> belonged to William Luck<strong>in</strong> of <strong>Marblehead</strong> 18: 5: 1643, when he<br />

mortgaged the house <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> to Capt. Edward Gibbons.* At that time the house <strong>and</strong> lot were <strong>in</strong> the<br />

possession, of William Chichester, <strong>and</strong> also as late as 1652. <strong>The</strong> house was apparently gone a few years<br />

later, when Henry Cooms was <strong>in</strong> the possession of the l<strong>and</strong>. George Bonfield of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, fisherman,<br />

owned it Jan. 24, 1671, when he sold it to Robert Bartlett of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, fisherman.† <strong>The</strong> lot belonged to<br />

Capta<strong>in</strong> Bartlett <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

Rev. Samuel Cheever Lot. William Luck<strong>in</strong> of <strong>Marblehead</strong> probably owned this lot 18: 5: 1643, when it<br />

was <strong>in</strong> the possession of William Chichester. It was mortgaged on that date to Capt. Edward Gibbons.‡ A.<br />

house then stood upon the l<strong>and</strong>. Joseph Younges of Salem, mar<strong>in</strong>er, conveyed the lot to David Corwithen of<br />

Salem Sept. 24, 1649;§ <strong>and</strong> it belonged to Mr. Corwithen <strong>in</strong> 1656. Henry Combs died, possessed of the lot,<br />

some years later; <strong>and</strong> Moses Maverick of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, merchant, for seventeen pounds <strong>and</strong> ten shill<strong>in</strong>g's,<br />

conveyed it to Rev. Samuel Cheever of <strong>Marblehead</strong> April 22, 1672.|| Mr. Cheever owned it <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

John Conant Lot. This lot belonged to Lot Conant <strong>in</strong> 1672. He died Sept. 29, 1674, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> the<br />

appraisal of his estate it was valued at five pounds. It was owned by his son Lot Conant <strong>in</strong> <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

Francis Grant <strong>and</strong> Susanna Grant House. This lot of l<strong>and</strong> was the property of Henry Coombs of <strong>Marblehead</strong><br />

very early. He died before 1670, when his widow was liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the house which stood where its site is<br />

marked on the map. This house was probably gone before <strong>1700</strong>.<br />

Half an acre of l<strong>and</strong>, be<strong>in</strong>g the northerly corner of the lot, was verbally given by Mr. Coombs to his son-<strong>in</strong>law<br />

Francis Grant <strong>and</strong> his daughter Susanna, wife of Francis, before May 4,1670, when his widow Elizabeth<br />

Coombs conveyed it to Francis <strong>and</strong> Susanna. * May 5, 1709, John Dixey of <strong>Marblehead</strong>, aged about fifty-three,<br />

deposed "that be<strong>in</strong>g a next neighbour to ffrancis Grant of <strong>Marblehead</strong> afores d Shoreman <strong>and</strong> hau<strong>in</strong>g fo been<br />

for about forty yeares last past doe well know that y e Said ffraneis Grant have been Pofsefsed <strong>in</strong> his owne<br />

right off about halfe an acre of l<strong>and</strong> Situate <strong>in</strong> <strong>Marblehead</strong> aforesaid nigh a place known by y e name of<br />
