10. Public awareness<br />
The use of millet based value added products was promoted through several<br />
awareness campaigns and programmes. These <strong>in</strong>cluded exhibitions, school<br />
children <strong>project</strong>s, on-campus and off-campus lectures, development of education<br />
materials and cook<strong>in</strong>g competitions. A total of 44 exhibitions <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Food<br />
Exhibition at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, Food Expo <strong>in</strong> Bangalore, agricultural<br />
fair <strong>in</strong> Dharwad and several other exhibitions at other places were organized and<br />
more than hundred thousands of people attended these events and were directly<br />
exposed to the products and results of the <strong>project</strong>.The beneficiaries <strong>in</strong>cluded farm<br />
men and women, entrepreneurs, agriculture officers, school children, college<br />
students and teachers, NGO representatives, members of women organizations,<br />
and local people <strong>from</strong> nearby towns. A total of 35 lectures were organized<br />
benefitt<strong>in</strong>g 1,185 persons and 5 cook<strong>in</strong>g completions were organized <strong>in</strong> Dharwad<br />
city and <strong>project</strong> villages <strong>in</strong> which 125 ladies participated. In addition, a folder<br />
on nutritional significance and method of preparation of f<strong>in</strong>ger millet malt and<br />
recipe books on f<strong>in</strong>ger millet, foxtail millet and little millet were prepared and<br />
widely distributed to users. The details of the awareness programmes organized<br />
are given <strong>in</strong> Table 27.
