This greatly helped them <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />
diversified value added products.<br />
The DRHS served as a platform for<br />
provid<strong>in</strong>g the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and enhanc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the knowledge of many SHG members<br />
associated with this <strong>project</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>India</strong> and<br />
Nepal. The scientists work<strong>in</strong>g under<br />
the <strong>project</strong> worked as resource persons<br />
for the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes to impart<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g on process<strong>in</strong>g, value addition<br />
and product development of f<strong>in</strong>ger<br />
millet and other small <strong>millets</strong>.<br />

were developed <strong>from</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ger millet gra<strong>in</strong>s with low <strong>in</strong>vestments and were demonstrated<br />
to the participants through various tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes. With m<strong>in</strong>imum additional<br />
expenditure, the farm women were able to prepare value added f<strong>in</strong>ger millet food<br />
items which were highly diversified and more attractive to youngsters <strong>in</strong> the family.<br />
Impart<strong>in</strong>g of the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g helped the officers to take up further tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes<br />
<strong>in</strong> other parts of the f<strong>in</strong>ger millet grow<strong>in</strong>g areas.<br />
A total of 153 participants belong<strong>in</strong>g to different categories <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g NGOs,<br />
officers of State Department of Agriculture, members of self help groups and farm<br />
women <strong>from</strong> different places were provided tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g on process<strong>in</strong>g, value addition<br />
and product development (Figs. 10, 11) organized at different centres (Table 7).<br />
