The ill-fated War Pass has produced two winners to date from his
first Australian crop and has produced four stakes winners from his first
Northern hemisphere-bred crop, who are now three-year-old.
lot 42 is colt by Written Tyccon out of the stakes placed mare
Temple Fire (Bletchingly). Being offered by Eliza Park as Agent, this
colt is a half brother to the Australia Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Stella
Cadente (Centaine), whilst his dam is a half sister to Bint Marscay
(Marscay), the dam of Bollinger (Dehere) and Mannington (Danehill).
Lot 42 Written Tycoon - Temple Fire colt MAGIC MILLIONS
lot 247, who is also being offered by Mill Park as Agent, is a Testa
Rossa (Perugino) colt out of the winning Kenny’s Best Pal (Bletchingly)
mare Pushing Daisies making him a half brother to the Epsom
Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Captain Sonador (Shamardal), who was
himself sold by Mill Park.
The strength of the sale has increased in recent years, with the
Session One average climbing from $26,792 in 2010 to $34,843 last
year, representing a 30% increase.
“We were very busy today after a steady start to inspections on
Friday and Saturday,” said David Somers, Eliza Park General Manger of
Operations.
“There looks to be a growing buying bench and early indications
are solid. We have some nice horses across the board and they should
sell accordingly – we have managed to have an excellent clearance
rate this season and this should continue given the interest.”
“The general talk coming into this years Adelaide Magic Millions
sale is as good as it has been in many years. The buyers are all in town
and credit has to go to Adrian Hancock and the team from Magic
Millions. The sale complex is looking fantastic and the vibe around the
complex has been very positive,” said Sam Hayes of Cornerstone Stud.
“We had one of our busiest days at a sale today. We have a
consistent line up of colts and our clients are prepared to meet the
market. There is a lot of interest in our Hussonet colt [lot 117] and we
have an impressive colt by Al Maher [lot 178]. The Good Journey’s have
been popular but my personal pick of our draft is a Reaan colt out of
Giftenary [lot 156]. He is the most athletic mover we have had at a sales
in quite some time.
“We are looking forward to tomorrow and will have water, coffee
[and Panadol] at the ready for buyers that have enjoyed another fun
night in the City of Churches. What happens in Adelaide….!!!!”
Adrian Hancock, who was appointed the South Australian
Consultant for Magic Millions last year, said yesterday, “This sale has
enormous potential to be a major player in the Australian yearling
sales circuit. It’s a place where buyers and vendors can enjoy a great
two or three days of a fun atmosphere amongst the business of buying
and selling.
“To me it’s the grass roots of the industry. The sale average is
$35,000, which is realistically where most people are at. It will be a
true litmus test of where the market is, we have vendors ranging from
major commercial operations to small breeders and equally a diverse
buying bench that includes trainers, who only have a couple, as well as
our leading trainers.
The response across the board to the yearlings and to the complex
have been very positive. Magic Millions have put a lot into this sale,
giving it a huge boost through sales ground improvements and
promotion of the sale and its good to see prospective buyers here
today [Sunday], which is very encouraging. I hope that Magic Millions
are rewarded for their investment in the sale.
In saying this, the market is still very selective. Its the same old
story - good horses will sell well, but the bottom will be tough, though
I hope that the breeders who have been supportive of the sale get
rewarded for the effort that they have put in, because there are some
really nice horses at every price range on the grounds.”
