THE MALAYAN MONTHS.
The more enlightened Arabians having made war with Mohammed and his
followers, in the year of Chrift 022, Mohammed was forced to fly from Mecca
and go to Medina, hut he afterwards prevailing, fettled his Epocha from
the time of his flight from Mecca, and named it Hegira, which fignifies
aji'tght or departure. The year he made confift of twelve moons, and began
with the moon named by the Arabians Mooharam ^f^'* in the faid year of
Chrifl: 622, July lOth, being Friday.
The Malays having received the Mohammedan faith, did (as all other na-
tions have done, who have imbibed the opinions of Mohammed) receive
therevvith their Epocha, and like wife their method of com putating time as
abovementioned ; of which the following is an enumeration :
