Jo Soh has always wanted to be a fashion designer.<br />
“At the age of 12, I decided to pursue fashion design<br />
as a career and have never looked back,” she says.<br />
“I was heavily infl uenced by my very fashionable<br />
mother who had a huge wardrobe. ”<br />
Besides designing for her own label, she also designed<br />
the outfi ts for the Singapore disabled sports contingent<br />
that competed in the Asean Para Games in Thailand.<br />
Interestingly, she broke onto the scene in Australia<br />
fi rst, with her debut collection at the Mercedes<br />
Australian Fashion Week in Melbourne, Australia in<br />
2003. She sold the entire collection immediately after<br />
to a boutique in Melbourne. She’s taken her label to the<br />
US, Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia. And Katy Perry<br />
has worn her sequinned bustier dress from the spring/<br />
summer 2010 collection.<br />
In Singapore, Soh’s label Hansel fl ourishes at her own<br />
store in Mandarin Gallery and she has plans to secure<br />
a second shop next year. Her sister label, Hello Hansel,<br />
focuses on bright and cheerful casual wear.<br />
