GREAT PLACE FOR DINNER:
Tepui is a great new
restaurant located upstairs in a
renovated colonial-style house. It’s
run by a young, friendly Venezuelan
and the atmosphere and food
is amazing, especially the fried
potatoes with salsa and sour cream.
BEST NIGHT OUT: A
night out in Phnom Penh
would not be complete without
experiencing the infamous Heart
of Darkness club, located on street
51 — it’s everything you would
imagine it to be and more.
BEST PLACE TO PARTY
WITH THE GANG: Sovanna is
a great local Cambodian BBQ spot.
People go for the grilled beef and
pork with black pepper and lime
dipping sauce. Good for big groups
and very cheap. Start with a pitcher
or tower of Anchor or Tiger beer and
see where the night takes you!
SURVIVAL TIP FOR
TOURISTS: Stay hydrated,
drink lots of Royal D.
BEST BREAKFAST: I like
River View Café. Located on
the banks of the Siem Reap River, it
has an awesome menu of Western,
European and Asian dishes.
The owner gives American-style
breakfast a new meaning here with
fresh coffee, grits (ground corn)
and eggs any way you want them.
GREAT PLACE FOR DINNER:
Check out Green Star.
Barely fi ve minutes out of town,
and supporting a local NGO, this
restaurant does great food. A
menu of fried corn, spicy duck,
crispy chicken, hot curries and beer
towers makes this a hard place to
walk past.
BEST NIGHT OUT: I’m going
to say karaoke here. The
new venue at Nokor Soksan Plaza
is cheap at only $3 an hour; it has
the best range of Western music to
beat out power-ballads and sells
good bottled beer. A couple hours
in here with a few drinks and you’ll
believe you’re a rockstar.
