LONDON
2012
Is This London’s Best
Boutique Hotel?
LONDON It’s a well-known (though
rarely revealed) fact within journalism
that whenever a headline poses a
question, the answer is usually “no”. Hotel
41 proves the exception to the rule: this
family-run boutique bolthole is the fi nest
we’ve ever stayed in in London.
Don’t just take our word. It was voted
the UK capital’s best by the users of
TripAdvisor and was the only UK hotel
to feature in the travel website’s recent
Traveller’s Choice Awards. “Amazing,
sexy, romantic,” said one rapt guest. “My
home from home,” gushed another.
That’s why 41 is our pick for anyone
visiting the capital this summer (we hear
there’s a big sporting event on). More like
a member’s club than a hotel, the whole
experience centres around the library,
where guests lounge on welcomingly
worn leather sofas surrounded by eclectic
objets d’art. Staff wait attentively, but
never obsequiously – a trick only the
best hotels manage. All this attention to
detail is the trademark of Bea Tollman,
the South African behind this and several
other equally fabulous hotels worldwide.
The rooms, for instance, with their
black-and-white rococo stylings, scream
understated luxury, while the relaxed
ambience extends to an honesty bar –
one of the last remaining in the city.
Close to Buckingham Palace, there are
attractions galore on hand should the
goings on in east London become too
much. But, frankly, you may just decide
not to venture out at all. 41hotel.com
