L’Angolo restaurant – l’angolo
means ‘the corner’ in Italian
and the eatery is tucked in the
corner of conservation building
Maxwell Chambers. Expect robust,
contemporary Italian fare from
partner-chef Giuliano Dacasto, who
honed his skills at Michelin-star
restaurants in Italy and Gordon
Ramsay’s Boxwood Café before
moving here four years ago. Standout
dishes include blue swimmer
crabmeat rolls wrapped in sweet
red and yellow capsicum, and
Parma ham ravioli with buff alo
mozzarella. All its pastas are made
in-house. For mains, savour the
pan-roasted black cod served with
pillow of mash potato and porcini
mushrooms. Enjoy your meal with
a glass of vino — which maitre d’
and sommelier Michele Carbotti,
who handles the 150 Italian labels
there, will help you choose.
TUNE IN
To get a true taste of Singapore’s
artistic talents, catch the third
Singapore Theatre Festival,
a showcase of works by local
playwrights. It’s an event that will
give you the ‘Singapore experience’,
as artistic director Ivan Heng
puts it. The founder of W!ld Rice
(the company behind the festival)
will also act in Huzir Sulaiman’s
The Weight of Silk on Skin,
about a middle-aged man and his
refl ections on love and loss. Also
watch Cooling Off Day by Alfi an
Sa’at, which revolves around the
recent general elections, and the
world premiere of Joel Tan’s Family
