BEST BREAKFAST: The best
and biggest buffet breakfast
is defi nitely at the Grand Hyatt hotel
right on the harbourfront in Wan
Chai. There is a wonderful selection
of fruit, pancakes, waffl es and eggs
all cooked to order and freshly baked
pastries including the delicious
raspberry friands.
MUST-BUY (MONEY NO
OBJECT!): Not an object to
buy, but rather a ‘once-in-a-lifetime
experience’, is to take a helicopter
ride over the city just before sunset
to experience the incredible views of
Hong Kong harbour and the Gotham
City-like skyline. Seeing it in the
daylight is one thing, but after dark
when the amazing display of skyline
lights shine, it’s spectacular.
SURVIVAL TIP FOR
TOURISTS: Be prepared
for some gentle (or, not so gentle)
pushing and shoving when queueing
or boarding various modes of
transportation — or even when
entering a ticketed venue.
FAVOURITE LOCAL FESTIVAL:
The Macau Food Festival held
in front of the Macau Tower each
year. During this festival, people
get to taste delicacies from all over
the world. You can fi nd Portuguese
egg tarts alongside Penang
kebabs, Taiwanese crab, Macanese
specialities, Thai, Japanese and
Vietnamese food, and much more.
MOST ROMANTIC SPOT:
I would highly recommend
the old Coloane Village. It is one
of those places where time has
stood still. There is a cosy restaurant
with balconies nestled in one of
those two-storey houses, serving
homely Portuguese food with
fantastic wines.
MUST-EATS: Check out Rua
da Felicidade, one of the
oldest and most charming streets
in Macau. Enjoy a meal at the
celebrated Fat Siu Lau or try some
desserts at Iris Dessert, Julius Drinks
and Koi Kei egg tarts. There are also
local hole-in-the-wall noodle shops.
