WELCOME NOTE
We’ve got loads of good news to share in this issue! Firstly, Jetstar Asia
Airways’ sister airline Jetstar Airways was voted by travellers as the Skytrax
Best Low-Cost Airline Australia/Pacifi c as well as the second-best Low-Cost
Airline in the world. Following on that are the exciting announcements
that we are starting fl ights from Singapore to Ningbo (see news page 71) from 9
September, to Beijing (originating in Melbourne) from 24 November and to Hanoi from
15 December. Also, due to increasing demand from our passengers, we are upping
the frequency of services to Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Bali
and Jakarta.
To help you make the most of those extra fl ights to Taipei, we’ve taken the
opportunity to feature the holiday playground of the local Taiwanese — Kenting. Ever
since the idol drama Wayward Kenting and movie Cape No. 7 were screened, this
seaside spot on the southernmost tip of the Taiwanese peninsula has been a magnet
for fans; we tell you what other attractions you can enjoy on page 50. The other
summer spot to hit is Osaka; fi nd the best ways to appreciate this season on page 59.
August and September are very busy months for Singapore and Singaporeans, not
least because the nation is celebrating her 46th birthday and the F1 Grand Prix returns
to her shores. On our cover, we have Singapore’s favourite singer, Kit Chan, whose
impressive singing chops have seen her win numerous awards as well as star in stage
musicals like Snow.Wolf.Lake, Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress and The Legend.
We fi nd out about her upcoming plans on page 24.
In this Singapore issue, we also urge visiting revellers to partake in other events as
well, and to try some perfectly located new restaurants (page 30).
Things in Bangkok are looking up — we introduce you to some of the city’s most
stylish people and their very cool and modern projects on page 42. At the other
spectrum, let me share with you the rural and historic joys of Hangzhou’s old city,
discovered on a recent whirlwind trip (page 36).
And for all of us who believe in leaving as little a carbon footprint as possible while
on holiday, we’ve spoken to hotels and resorts for insight on how they’re doing their
part to ensure sustainability for the future, on page 64.
Jetstar departs from Changi Airport’s Terminal 1.
Enjoy the fl ight and have a good trip.
