THOMAS COOK NEWS LENDING A HAND IN SPANISH THOMAS COOK STAFF IN Palma, Majorca, have been helping local children’s charity Ames by asking hoteliers to donate bed linen, blankets and towels to its three centres for children who are unable to stay with their own families, including children that arrive from Senegal and Mali with no family or luggage. The Charity also provided funding for a new mini bus for the children. In the past few months we have supported volunteering activities undertaken by a number of our employees, not only because we want to support the needs of local communities, but also because we recognise the personal benefits our people gain from carrying out voluntary activities. 104 Thomas Cook Travel It’s easy being green “Make Holidays Greener” week was launched by the Travel Foundation and takes place annually in July. Holidaymakers and Thomas Cook employees are encouraged to take part in environmental or social activities in resort destinations. The great thing about the activities is that they’re now available all season, so the benefits are long-lasting and Thomas Cook guests have something new to do on holiday. SAVING SEALIFE Launched in July 2011 to celebrate “Make Holidays Greener” week, Finding Shades has become a regular fun-filled family day out at Majorca’s Palma Aquarium. Enjoy all the fun of the aquarium, plus entertainment and games from KidsWORLD staff and mascots like Shades the Shark (above), who In 2011, cabin crew members from our Birmingham airport base delivered much-needed stationery and gifts to a school in the Gambia. Back at home, and in August members of the cabin crew training and recruitment team spent an entire day at a housing unit for young mothers and children, close to our head office.
