Get a taste of eight different regional styles
of Chinese opera from Beijing all the way to
Zhengzi at the Chinese Opera Festival in Hong
Kong this month. From now until July 21 a series
of spellbinding performances by long-standing
opera troupes – such as the Cantonese Music
and Song Art Troupe and Jinkun Theatre, as
well as renowned actors the likes of Pei Yanling,
Tang Yuenha and Geng Tianyuan – will be
staged at various local theatres. If the shows
make you yearn for more of this traditional
and frequently underappreciated Chinese art
form, be sure to check out the exhibitions and
– if you know Mandarin – talks by maestros and
aficionados alike.

details on shows to be presented at designated
venues, including the Hong Kong Cultural
Centre, Ko Shan Theatre, Tuen Mun Town Hall,

Long Theatre and Kwai Tsing Theatre.

「我從13歲就開始學習粵劇。我的父親
是50、60年代香港著名電影美術廣告設計
師梁君顯,我在三年級時輟學,隨父親到
片場協助佈景美術工作。過了不久,我便
跟大姊在藝林粵劇學院學習粵劇基本功。
自此便展開了我53年的粵劇生涯。
「我一直以來只演生角。演戲曲最困難的
部分是要記熟所有的演出程式、古老排
場,還有唱歌的發聲技巧和感情控制。
