A GOOD PLACE TO BE A TOUR
GUIDE? “Because it’s unlike
any other city in the US. It’s a
European city that just happens
to be located at the mouth of
the Mississippi.”
WHEN DID YOU GET INTO THIS
BUSINESS? “In 1991. My hobby
was New Orleans history, and I
have degrees in journalism and
theater, so it was a no-brainer.
Then, in the late ’90s, I started
a tour company with my first
cousin once removed, [famed
vampire novelist] Anne Rice.”
A LOT OF YOUR GARDEN

RICE’S WORK, INCLUDING A
STOP AT HER HOME AND A
CEMETERY THAT SHOWS UP IN
HER WRITING. YOU MUST GET

ERS. “I had a fella show up on
my tour with a copy of Interview
with the Vampire indexed like
a Bible, so when I talked about
something in the Garden District,
he could read what Anne
had written about it. I know I
did well, because he said, ‘It’s
exactly the way she describes

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO
START GIVING FOOD TOURS?
“It started as a hobby. I love
Milwaukee, and my husband,
Wade, who is also from
Milwaukee, loves food. So we
combined those two things.”
WHY IS MILWAUKEE SUCH
A GREAT PLACE FOR A
CULINARY EXPERIENCE?
“We have so many great
immigrant backgrounds and
ethnic flavors in Milwaukee.
It’s a wonderful opportunity
to sample different foods. You
go to one block and you’re in
Germany. You go to another
block and you’re in Italy.
People think it’s just beer and
brats here.”
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE
THING TO EAT ON THE TOUR?
“I am Sicilian, and I’ve been
going to Peter Sciortino’s
Bakery for the cannolis since I
was a little girl.”
