HUSH HIP HOP TOURS
New York, NY
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE
A GOOD HIP-HOP GUIDE?
“Knowing your hip-hop
history—and who better to
know it than somebody who
lived it? I can do this in my
sleep. I’ve been told I have the
memory of 20 elephants as far
as hip-hop is concerned.”
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE
MEMORY FROM A SPECIFIC
TOUR? “We went into Hollis
Famous Burgers [in Queens]
and Snoop Dogg was there.
The group’s eyes just lit up.
They looked at me like, ‘Do
you think you can get some
autographs?’ And I went,
‘Watch this.’ They got to take
pictures and get autographs.
It looked like I set it up.”
YOU’RE A LEGENDARY
HIP-HOP DJ. WHY DID YOU
START GIVING TOURS? “In a
lot of hip-hop today, they’re
just out to get: ‘Give me that
chain, give me that watch,
give me that Rolls-Royce, give
me the lights, the camera, the
action.’ But what about the
history? What about when
the year 2052 comes around,
and the pioneers aren’t here
anymore? Who’s going to tell
our story then? I feel it’s my
obligation to put our history
in its proper context. I don’t
do this for the money; I do it
for the love of the art form.”
